Alienating our allies isn't an unintended consequence of the tariffs & deportations, it's the entire point. Trump is disconnecting us from the global economy so we're less vulnerable to sanctions in response to what he's planning.

Back in 1914 Germany wanted war, but they were worried their allies the Austrian-Hungarian Empire wouldn't join in if Germany unilaterally started it. Their solution was to wait for Austria-Hungary to declare a small regional war, which Germany could then join in and expand to fit their own goals.
