I’ve just finished watching a lecture on how to notice architectural details. We looked at different buildings in Lviv. It made me return to the videos and photos from my recent visit there. Perhaps it’s time to write another letter.

Kyiv. The smell of last night’s attack is in the air. I’m making warcoffee. Reading the news. Warehouses belonging to civilian businesses were on fire. A railway station in the Kyiv region was hit. People were killed.

Is it only translated editions they do? I’ve been trying to find Ukrainian books for my works library for our Ukrainian pupils, and so far it’s been a bust😤

Just after midnight in Kyiv. Once again, the city is under ballistic missile attack. Loud explosions shake the summer night.

It caught my attention immediately. Why is the piano here? I came closer. 🇺🇦 Oleh Holosii, Night Lights, 1992. The title raised even more questions.

I’m in a bookstore now. This shelf holds books from publishers affected by the russian attack on August 1, when eight million books were destroyed. The bookstore is asking people to buy their books. I wanted to remember this shelf.

Kherson was liberated in 2022. Since then, the city has been under active shelling by russian forces. The video is quite long, and you will have to read the subtitles, but it is well worth it to immerse yourself in a world where war is an ongoing reality-in the Ukrainian city of Kherson.

Around eight million books were destroyed in Kharkiv yesterday. Many Ukrainians are responding by buying books from the affected publishers and from KnyhoLand, the bookstore chain that also used the warehouse. I bought these today.

Books were under attack again. In Kharkiv, a russian drone struck a warehouse belonging to the Ukrainian publisher Ranok. The warehouse was also used by KnyhoLand, one of our largest bookstore chains. I buy books and then buy more. To save them, support Ukrainian publishers and read, of course.
