Apex millennial greybeard with a suboptimal lumbar. World’s Okayest Miniature Painter. Science fiction, fantasy, comics, and other tabletop and board game geekery. Find me in #MiniaturePainting and #BookSky.

A case study in UX right here. Keychron makes good products but they’ve made a dictionary of icons for their features that they proudly present with zero context. On an iPhone at lease, there’s no hope of hovering over them to glimpse meaning. Very hostile to a consumer who isn’t committed to them.

A product listing of keyboards, organized into lettered series (e.g. K Pro). Each series has 2-4 non-standard icons ostensibly indicating features but the meaning of every last icon is obtuse and not explained in any meaningful way to the viewer.

I've created a containerized app for your comic book inventory / pull list with Android and iOS companion apps called Danger Room. For me, the killer app is the cover slideshow, which lets me put my comic collection (which normally sits in a box) on display in my home. dangerroom.chateaulore.net

An Android tablet sitting on a display stand, displaying the cover for Marvel's Midnight Fantastic Four #1 (2026) in the Danger Room companion app (called HardLight)'s cover slideshow feature. The background is an array of various comic books spread around the table.

One of the things that’s as galling as it is bewildering about Sony planning to be done with physical games is that their digital store experience is amateurish. They do a terrible job showcasing what’s new and interesting.

I built an Android app called Cogsworth to help a kiosk-style display at my record collection to make the wall of vinyl more accessible to guests and during parties, because nobody wants to twist their neck sideways or crawl on the floor to scan my records. cogsworth.chateaulore.net

Cogsworth — A display, search, and multi-collection management app for Android devices.

Cogsworth is an Android companion for your Discogs collection. Browse your shelves, find a record, and rediscover what to play next.

Been taking an archery class with the local parks & rec. Shot 8 sets or 5 arrows today with a recurve at 10 yards and did fairly well: 25, 40, 41, 44, 36, 38, 40, 41.

Maybe don’t call Haaland the “King in the North,” sportscasters. There were books. They made a TV show. IT DOESN’T GO WELL FOR THAT CHARACTER.

Relistening to A Black Mile to the Surface (2017) in the wake of the news that Manchester Orchestra drummer Tim Very has passed away. This album really resonates with me during a bad period in my life, but I’m really struck now by how similar it feels to a John Dardinelle novel.

Displaying Team USA Olympic figure skater Ilia Malnin on a CRT brings out a lot of the artist-intended details that get lost with pure pixels, this is why so many of us retain vintage hardware
