Game designer. Radical optimist. Play is essential. he/him

Btw I sketched out three weird new game concepts this weekend. Not sure if anything will come of them, and not stressed about it. Just relearning how to enjoy the easy part of the creative process again.

Even though I have no regrets missing Gencon, it lights me up to hear so many of my friends had their best year to date. There’s little greater joy than seeing great things happen for great people

Good morning, team For the junior producer role, we appreciate all your diverse recommendations To avoid fears of DEI, we went with a merit hire Please welcome Chad Von Presidentcousin to the team He begins in 5 weeks after vacation in Napa. Please handle the workload meanwhile. Thanks!

Good morning, team Next Friday we ship but The licensor has last minute feedback They don’t want us using any likeness of Sidekick McFanfavourite and must remove all references to his name Annoying, but luckily the marketing SVP says it’s just a easy find/replace Ship date unchanged Crush it!

Good morning, team From last weeks deep dive on TikTok trends, we collected four game concepts from y’all Total. Not enough. We need minimum five concepts *per trend* to evaluate with our Insights department Anyway, last weeks trends are now off table I need “6-7” concepts by next standup

Good morning, team Exciting update! We got the report from Opinions Inc, and their latest play session with walkthrough mall customers They found the game confusing, too derivative and also too weird Also boring So valuable! Let’s address point-by-point for next standup Keep crushing it!

Your vote in Democratic primaries is much more important than your presidential vote Presidents don’t save countries after disaster. Movements do Vote Democratic socialists or progressives for every office and give the USA a chance to level up from tyranny by the wealthy

Good morning, team B4lancinatoR on Reddit didn’t like the last patch and posted design notes for his alternative version No, stop it. I see you eyerolling We need to take this seriously I need to see a full comp analysis for our next standup That’s all. Let’s crush it!

I've been back into making hobby games again, after a long enough break. But I'm not interested in making my usual old school hobby games. I'm interested in treading some new (to me) ground. So don't expect any new 2+hour euro economic puzzles or big box dungeon crawl mini-fests Time to get weird

Those of you going to Gencon: Please check out Blood Rage Valhalla and Clash of Clans the board game They’re both quite excellent IMO and if you’re a fan of my work I think you’ll be pleased

Periodic reminder that US propaganda is the most effective in the world. The USA is not exceptional, unique or special. It’s just powerful. And dangerous.

Merge actually became more complicated during development as we needed to account for the bookkeeping loose ends I never wanted something mechanically “loud;” rather an omnipresent threat to normal area control incentives (ie. a natural reason for players to not want anyone falling too far behind)

@ericlang.bsky.social Hey Eric, I hope this is okay to ask publicly. I was curious during the creation process of ANKH did the merge mechanic get simplified from your original vision? I love ANKH, but always felt the MERGE was suppose to be more epic but had to be nerfed due to balance issues.

Failing to acknowledge your co-designers in interviews, especially after they’ve made damn sure to do so over and over again, is a super dick move and you should be ashamed This is 100% a subtweet

I work with some of the biggest publishers in the world and I guarantee you they all consider BGG ratings as part of their strategic heuristics Data is data, and our industry is starved for it. People naturally cling to what is available, even when it’s bad.

Peer Sylvester@peersylvester.bsky.social · last mo.

Actually most publishers I know dont give a hoot on the BGG ratings. They may find a high rating game when scouting that they will try out,but they certainly dont put any stock on changing their strategy or something on a random internet comment. So, its not just dumb, its not what they think it does

Ugh I really hate it when someone stomps over a valid venting about game ratings bombs with facile shit like “uhhhh just ignore ratings” It’s 2026. Maybe just not give unhelpful asshole “advice?”

I also can’t wait for the trick taking trend to pass No offense; I’m happy for my many friends getting all the cool new twists on their favourite thing I just don’t enjoy trick taking in any form (And yes, I tried your example “trick taker for people who hate trick takers” of choice)
