Jenna is furious when she sees Tracy has the same animatronic bird in his office that a local store refused to sell to her. Turns out the clerk had told him it wasn't for sale, which Tracy thought meant he could take it for free. Jack has Kenneth sneak the bird back to avoid a scene.

BRAZIL is a whole other experience rewatching recently. The grotesquely banal evil. Soul crushing bureaucracy servicing everyday fascism creep. The acceptance of armed paramilitaries doing whatever they like to anyone they want. The escapism as a necessary mental survival method. It’s all there.

Is there a work of art that was created well before the current era that you feel explains Trump and MAGA and everything better than anything contemporary? For me it’s Assassins (1990) but I’m curious if other people have one.

I know. Given the churn, this having come out a month ago makes it old news, but it's still new to you. And a great way to start reading the Hazeland books (don't let 'book 4' fool you.) Trying to write the first six so you can come in from any angle and be okay. Mostly succeeding.

💯. Especially in the context of massive budget cuts or restructuring, the “decline of public trust in the university” conceals an agenda to discipline labor. Too many grad worker unions, faculty organizers, protesting students making demands.

Higher ed leaders are doing "decline of public trust" discourse in order to avoid talking about all the things they've done to undermine their institutions, including exploiting contingent faculty labor, attacking student protest, and underfunding the humanities

The Little River north of Durham NC was the scene of a 1981 murder that helped spark the state's LGBTQ+ movement. The details have always been fuzzy. Now, 45 years later, Andrew Nurkin has told the story of Sonny Antonevitch's killing and the movement it launched. @theassemblync.bsky.social #ncpol

The Incident at Little River

The brutal crime that catalyzed the LGBTQ movement in North Carolina 45 years ago has never been fully chronicled—until now.

The current huge story about the gang rape at Cornell University, a crime originally brushed off and covered up by the administration, is SOLELY the product of the student paper, the Cornell Daily Sun, which doggedly pursued the story. Not the NYT or CNN. An independent student paper. #Cornell

LETTER FROM THE EDITOR | Cornell Won’t Listen, We Will

The Sun's Editor-in-Chief Sophia Dasser '28 calls on the Cornell community to share its reactions to the Chi Phi lawsuit and the University's response, on the record, for a permanent public archive.
