And in today's baby-sysadmin/homelab adventures: tailscale is indeed extremely easy to use and really just worked. Goal is to eventually move to bare wireguard when I learn more, but dang if this wasn't a good first experience.
Immich is such a great intro to self hosting. Their docs are fairly straightforward, I don’t think I did much of anything to customize the docker install other than throttling the ML container resources because it’s running on a 4Gb Raspberry pi 4. The mobile app is also excellent for casual backup.

I think even this summary doesn’t get the point across. Grants are basically buying services for the people of the United States. Sure, they may be a little less profit defined at times, but there are usually rigorous outcomes defined. This is how we get new medicines and technology and research.

But grants fund salaries for students, academics, researchers, and people who work in all areas of public service. “Pausing” grants means people don’t eat.
