Now that we are into August, we should be easing out of our peak severe weather season. Climatologically, the chances for severe weather on August 3rd is 3-4% in our area; by month's end is around 1-2%.

Sunday AM: A low-end severe weather risk will develop this afternoon, especially if we get some breaks in the cloud cover around midday....which would help to warm up/destabilize the atmosphere. A strong wind gust and tropical downpours could occur; tornado risk is non-zero.

Day 2 of the Italian Fest will be a cloudier affair, but there should not be much more than a sprinkle or quick shower during the day. Rain chances will increase late Saturday evening.

Bild

Soggy Weekend Weather: Not much more than a sprinkle or quick shower Saturday, but some tropical soakers can be around at times Saturday night and Sunday. A regionwide average of an inch to 1.5 inches will be possible, and some localized flooding is a concern.

El Nino continues to strengthen in the Pacific and this very warm tongue of water will have an impact on the jet stream over North America in the coming months. Odds will favor a milder winter for us, especially compared to the last 2 winters.

Bild

Summer So Far: almost 2/3 of the way through meteorological summer....temperatures are running about a degree above the average. It's been "less hot" than the last 2 summers, which was the expectation. The first half of August looks pretty warm.

Bild

A really hot start to July, but the relatively cool second half of the month has insured that the month will go into the record books as "unremarkable" in the temperature department.

4:08pm: This complex of thunderstorms north of Lake Erie will continue dropping southward late this afternoon; this, in addition to new activity that should sprout up, will give us our first chance for showers and storms tonight....mainly between 7-10pm.
