ALL THAT SHE WANTS: In the annals of the older woman/younger man scenarios, this is one of the worst. Hard to put stock in any movie where Annie Murphy is constantly referred to as looking like the old one. (Spoiler: The Ace of Base song plays at the 55-minute mark.)

LOVE OF YOUR LIFE: Rachel Morrison’s follow-up to The Fire Inside is one of the better romantic dramas I have seen in a while. Qualley is terrific and given great support from Basso, Pierre and Keener. A navigation through love, grief, rediscovery and forgiveness. Music great too

EVIL GENIUS: A nutty true crime film well done by Courteney Cox. Patricia Arquette, David Harbour and the whole cast are having fun with this one. Think I misread the description as being about something else but this worked too. #TIFF

I PLAY ROCKY: One of the great true underdog tales about the making of one of the great fictional underdog tales is hard to screw up. Especially when you know what beats to hit. And I don’t think they screwed it up. They miss one BIG moment but Ippolito is terrific and it works.

THE FACE OF HORROR: I was a fan of both Anna Biller’s Viva and The Love Witch but this ode to Hammer horror and Bava is not over the top enough to work as parody and too over the top to be taken seriously. Bright colors can’t substitute for its drag to two hours. #TIFF

THE JULIA SET: Chase Infiniti really has star power which is why its such a shame this screenplay plays things so basic in a film about trying to solve larger equations. More interested in getting easy “what a dick” reactions out of the toxic boyfriend than breaking past cliches.

EVERYBODY WANTS TO F*** ME: Will compete for the worst film I see at #TIFF. A DOA satire that is never in control of its premise and doesn’t have the smarts to truly tackle the whole “nice guy syndrome” scenario. So very dumb and awful.

THE STUNT DRIVER: Enjoyed this one. Performances mostly carry the day particularly Baruchel but nice work too from Ed Helms, Dan Bakkendahl and Ben Foster as Evil Knievel. Doesn't shy away from Carter recognizing he is in over his head on his magnum opus. #TIFF
