Tallish, bookish Londoner. Gothic/folk horror novel, set in Victorian London, "Unquiet" https://titanbooks.com/71432-unquiet/ Weird queer short fiction, "Lost in the Archives" https://tinyurl.com/saxeyshorts They/them

Poem hunt! Late C19/20th, something along the lines of "Be a flower, sweet girl, be a flower / stay [minimising compliment] and neat / Or thrust yourself into a tree and have the world at your feet." Possibly 'be a rose'? But not the E Dickinson Gentian poem. Search skills failing, any clues?

The worn sticker on the gym equipment no longer tells me what to do with my limits. Know, respect, defy? Shorn of a verb, is it an insult? (cf. "your mum")

The metal frame of a bit of gym kit has a sticker which reads "YOUR LIMITS".

Wookey Farm's Burcott is a West Country goats cheese that tastes like best pecorino. I haunt country shows, elbow strangers aside to buy many extra-mature "forgot it in a cave" hemispheres. "How long does it keep," I ask, knowing it will be gone within a week. www.earthfare.co.uk/products/woo...

People on Bluesky sigh and talk about The Discourse as if it were something required of them instead of something they opt to partake in, day in and day out. You really don't have to. Post about your favorite cheese

In Margate Caves you can play the archeology prof in a monster movie and murmur: this creature is more ancient than we imagined! (Paintings are 19th century.)

A popular internet stuffed animal, a white monkey-cat thing sitting like a human, with small hands spread in exasperation.A similar creature, monkey like, sitting like a human, hands out, but brown. Another monkey is in front of it, listening. Bit rubbish. Painted on a cave wall.

Recommend watching the Odyssey with a Classics person - when a character says "yeah we're the house of Atreus" you can feel the seats vibrate with their knowledge of how shit-out-of-luck those guys are forever.

1536 at the Ambassadors Theatre is great - three young women in a village in Essex, with the Boleyn events distant in London but still impacting on them. How misogyny can saturate a society, and its currents and ripples be stirred into destructive waves.

Sincere surreal question: if someone says "the trickster was the first to fall, he contains faces", what do you reckon it refers to? Standard Christian war in heaven? 'Supernatural' fanfic? (To offer context and explain why I can't ask follow-ups, it was shouted at me by a man on a bus.)

William Brown, arrested 300 years ago yesterday, in London, for cruising. "I think there is no Crime in making what use I please of my own Body."

Paddled nervously in the lively sea today until I thought: you don't have to fear the waves if you're part of them. So I swam. Then got slapped up the shingle so fast that strangers checked I was ok. Love it when nature refuses to confirm the metaphors it elicited from you.

Last night a kind soul in the toilets was admiring my outfit and I asked if I was wearing too many accessories. They said "No, and Coco Chanel was a fascist". Happy London Pride.
