love this community firmware on legacy hardware. I'm dialing in the settings for rockbox on my old music player. kind of the best audio playing experience I've had, very customizable. display, sound, button behavior, all tweakable.
a bee flew into a spiderweb right next to me and I really had to think about it for a second since I'm both pro-spider and pro-bee and also "who am I to interfere in nature" but then I freed the bee since they have a tough go of things right now.

For a long time I only knew Mingus' instrumental Fables of Faubus from "Ah Um" but turns out Columbia had barred him from releasing the lyrics. He did that later with a different label though. youtu.be/QT2-iobVcdw... The original is still an anthem for our time. "Boo! Nazi Fascist supremists!"

Enshitification continues to come for the USPS. Now my tracking app (Parcel) has to pay to get updates. I'm sure this is an absolutely negligible revenue stream for the USPS but it sure breaks a whole lot of stuff and continues to degrade mail delivery experience.
i just sent this to a group chat that is majority millennials and they thought I was sending a pic of some spy guys
Pace Robert Benchley, there are currently two types of people in the world: the kind who see other people as the *problem*, or see other people as the *point*. I think the whole point of existence is the coolness, weirdness and friction of other people. People like Zuck … do not.

Edge case music nerdery but autotagging the key and bpm of my track imports is now working in https://beets.io ... still a lot to tweak but so far so good.
ok OK I'm going to try managing my music library the proper way with https://beets.io which is like saying "I'm going to fix that wobbly leg on my table by first building a power saw from parts" (i.e. you end up with a power tool that is probably a perfect fit for you after some work)
Just found out that our Seattle area dentist here in Phinney sold his clinic to private equity a while back and didn't tell us but we found out and THAT is how you get me to leave your business IMMEDIATELY.
explaining to someone just now that the "peer-to-peer radio-texting community in Seattle is run by a loose affiliation of radio nerds, preppers, and RAVERS" is the most cyberpunk sentence I've typed recently (meshcore if you want to get in on the fun)
Nolan's The Odyssey not having a post-credits teaser for The Aeneid seems like a missed franchise opportunity (The Aeneid post credits scene would obviously be for Dante's Inferno).
I’m excited for neuromancer but i think case should look a little unhealthier

hand editing an rss feed and, honestly, so satisfying. the web is really mostly still just text folks. reclaim it.

"what if we had the least charismatic men possible try to force the use of intensely socially disruptive tech" is a thought experiment that just keeps getting answered the same way, over and over again.
One is an extended fantasy about arbitrary rules imposed on social behavior by a weirdly obsessive authoritarian and the other is a kids book about a sports competition or something
Routledge have a video to advertise their classics series that offers a number of suggested next reads from the series if you enjoyed other books - the suggestions get enjoyably weirder as they go on, cumulating with 'if you liked The Hunger Games, try Popper's The Open Society and its Enemies'
Last week camping w/my son in deep WA woods the air was clear (no wildfire smoke there yet & burn ban). BUT we did ONCE smell a campfire (couldn't find it). Careless, selfish individual behavior with potentially massive & terrible consequences. Seems to be one of the defining problems of our time.

Voted 🗳️ Don’t forget to take your ballots to a drop box by 8pm today, Seattle.
I didn't get an I VOTED sticker this time but I did spot this heron hiding just off the path at Seattle's Greenlake on my way to drop off my ballot.
My disassembled vanmoof bike was blocking the hot water heater that I needed to drain so I used a little bit of hose. Solved.
I don't really have an objection to the CEO saying Bluesky is open to all; it's kind of his job to do that. But as others have pointed out, the design of the site means it's harder for trolls/bots/chuds *and also* influencers/hypebeasts to get traction. The "bubble" here is actually normal humans.
listening to some radiohead mp3s on a player with no connectivity, pop ups, notifications, streaming, or interruptions and it's like being back in the 90s.
15,000 years ago, in one of the the earliest settled communities in the world, a child collected fine clay from the slow-moving river by her home. She then committed an act familiar to all inveterate play-doh enthusiasts; rolling and and pinching the squishy clay into tiny round balls.
