Ethical dating online

@ethicaldating.bsky.social

We are a network of academics, mostly philosophers, exploring the social impact of dating apps. Find us at ethicaldatingonline.com and Instagram.

As part of #BPF2026, I'll be speaking online at @triphilosophy.bsky.social - 1pm, Tuesday 17 March. Following #IWD, come and find out how we can fight back against misogyny's growing use of various digital representations against women! #philsky #philosophymatters All are welcome! Zoom link below

Representational Wrongs
AI-Generated Sexual Images & the Digital Evolution of Misogyny
Dr Alex Fisher

Outline:
1. Harms of AI images: deceptive vs representational
2. How AI-generated sexual images harm
3. Other cases of representational misogynyThe social media site X recently faced outcry when its AI tool Grok was used to generate “undressed” images of women without their consent.

I show how research in philosophy and psychology can illuminate why these images are so harmful. Even when we know images aren’t “real”, seeing digital representations of ourselves violated can have a deep emotional impact.

I discuss how we can combat this developing misogynistic trend of representational wrongs, including undressed and “tribute” images, virtual assault, and custom sex dolls.

Liven up your lunch hour with TRIP Lunchtime Talks - coming soon! 🥪 🍎 🗓️ Starting on 17th March, we'll be hosting a new series of online lunchtime #philosophy talks. The first talk will be by @alex-fisher.bsky.social on the dangers of AI and social media. Watch this space for more info!

This is becoming a worrying trend as relationship advice is now marketised and monetised by big tech. And difficult to foresee the longer term social impact of increased AI use in dating/relationships on how we trust, talk to, and relate to others. @clsrleeds.bsky.social @ethicaldating.bsky.social
