We'd need to negotiate 40 similar deals to offset the OBR's estimate of a roughly 4% hit from #Brexit." 📉 A Sunderland Echo letter dismantles post-Brexit trade myths. This isn't what our region's 2016 voters were promised. It's time for one deal that actually works. Do you agree? 🇪🇺 #RejoinEU

A letter headed “The polls show what is wanted”, which appeared in the Sunderland Echo on 10 July 2026. Polling shows that the majority of us want to rejoin the European Union. That increasingly includes one-time Leave voters, too.

"As we mark the referendum’s tenth anniversary, we should also try to close the European political rift that Brexit opened. Too much time has been wasted, and for nothing. On both sides of the channel, the public is demanding a new EU-UK relationship for the 2030s and 2040s". ecfr.eu/article/beyo...

Such a lot has happened in this last decade... with your support we have helped to challenge the stereotype that the North East is Brexit Central. Thank you so much for all your time, effort and dedication to the cause!

You have to adopt the Euro to rejoin the EU!" 🛑 Wrong. Adopting the single currency is a distinct step that comes much later—if ever. Look at Sweden (joined 1995) or Poland (joined 2004). Polls showing a 60-40 split to rejoin, it's time to drop the red lines and start rebuilding. 🇪🇺🇬🇧 #RejoinEU

A newspaper clipping of a letters column from The Chronicle, dated Wednesday, June 24, 2026. The headline reads "Adopting euro a long way behind first step". The letter argues that rejoining the Single Market and the EU are distinct steps from adopting the euro, citing Sweden, Poland, Norway, and Switzerland as examples of countries that do not use the euro but enjoy EU or Single Market benefits. It also notes a consistent 60-40% polling shift in favour of the UK rejoining the EU.
