Today it is 17 years since I quit smoking. Smoking cessation is different - for me - than alcohol cessation. I still have the occasional cigarette craving, and they’re still pretty powerful. But they only last like, 2 seconds. Whereas I never want a drink at all, and there’s beer in the house.
Ever since Amazon turned the Alexa thingy over to an LLM it’s much slower and stupider. BB and I have decided we will use our current echo dot until it dies (soon) and then not replace it.

Exactly 2 months ago, to the minute, I was in an operating room at the University of Washington Montlake, having my sternum sawed in half. They would go on to cut my heart into a bunch of pieces. Today I’m going to go run and lift weights. #openheartsurgery
The Old Trails fire in Spokane is going to be horrific. No official statement on deaths yet except than some are expected. But the fire exploded unexpectedly yesterday and burned more than 640 homes in less than a day.
Church of the Sunday Long Run: 10km is my longest run since January 31st, when I did 20 miles. I am in poor shape still, and recovery from #openheartsurgery is slow and arduous. But I am making progress.

Megaholt 𓅃@megaholt.medsky.social · 4d agoIf you’re able to donate blood, PLEASE do so. As an ICU nurse, I promise you that we are in dire need of blood and blood products for patients. We do whatever we can in order to avoid transfusing, but we can’t always replace lost blood with normal saline or Lactated Ringers.
I have also now submitted some poetry. This I’ve done before, but not since college. I am not hOpiNg tO BecoMe a WrIter. I am already a writer. Everyone who works in or near academia is a writer. But I do kinda hope that some small bit of my creative writing might one day be published.
I am volunteering at a loop ultra today. 2.6 mile loop. Run up to 32 hours. There’s a lady here breastfeeding an infant between laps. What a badass.
You know, the Pax Americana - the period during which the United States was a dominant force for global stability and peace, now over - really only lasted from 1941 until 2016. 75 years. Before we were weak, disorganized, colonial, divided. After, we are erratic, bellicose, and overextended.
Managed to stick to my diet today despite my wife being out of town. Amazing.

I have decided to take a rest day today. But that does not mean an “eat every cookie in a six block radius” day even though that’s the day I really want to take.
