We're currently going through a period that has parallels (not too many) with byzantine iconoclasm, both periods intensely conscious that images are not neutral. they shape belief, distribute status and power, and determine what a society regards as sacred, legitimate, human.

Whether we have purpose or not, time marches on. With purpose, it feels like progress Without purpose it feels like doom. Politics is deciding whose sense of purpose we take on and whose we destroy. An individual whose purpose is wealth will always hate the collective purpose of social justice
