Experimental post: The Duality of Whacka In the Switch version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Whacka can finally be fought, and has a suspiciously specific 108 HP. The game both offers a ridiculously simplistic explanation for this as well as a complex one steeped in Dharmic symbolism.

In Paper Mario, the original version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, and Super Paper Mario, Whacka was just a harmless whack-a-mole creature that could be abused to get Whacka Bumps, extremely valuable healing items. After being hit enough times, the Whacka goes extinct, teaching the players the consequences of their actions. However, in the Switch version of Paper Mario: TTYD, he instead moves to the bottom of the Pit of 100 Trials and becomes an optional superboss with 108 HP. He is fought at the bottom of the Pit of 100 Trials and has to be hit 8 times in order for the fight to activate. but also The number 108 is considered sacred by the Dharmic religions, such as Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. As much as I hate networking™ in a job context, I have to admit it's been so helpful getting to know people in the community for various reasons. I'd really encourage people to go out of their way to talk to people at LANs, DM better players to ask questions, say something in that server.

When starting Donkey Kong Land, there is a 1/8 chance the game will boot in a "paranoid ducking state" where Donkey Kong will constantly look around while ducking. This is actually a fault of the random number generator, which "locks in" to a single value and fails to be random.

In the Mario Teaches Typing games, Mario never criticizes the player for underperforming and tries to be understanding and supportive. According to Charles Martinet, that was his initiative, as he felt being negative would go against the core principles of Mario's character.

And when I got the script and I'm in the studio - I'm reading the script for the first time, there were things like "You failed!" "That wasn't very good." "That was much worse... that was bad." And I was reading that and I said, "Do you mind if I just, like, play with these words a little bit and just change them around?" because, you know, I never say "no" and I never say anything negative as Mario... and the producer graciously said "Sure, go for it!" And so it became "Oh, that was good, but I know you can do even better!" "Oh, nice one but let's try again!" so it was always uplifting and always trying to be positive. So from my understanding, here's the odds of a couple of cat breed/color + gender combos compared to rare occurrences in Pokemon: Female orange cat: about the same odds as a female starter (1/8) Male calico: about the same odds as a shiny Pokemon from gen 6 & up (1/4096)

I don't do commissions anymore (usually due to just not having the time for them) but one thing I usually try to tell people when they are pushing their commissions is to format some of them in a way where you provide a use case for the art. For example, simple portraits are effectively icons/pfps.
