Booterstown Mere the other side of the Dart tracks from the sea on Dublin Bay doesn't look like it might be a major haven for waders and other birds, but two days ago it was heaving with redshanks, greenshanks, egrets, herons. Just before high tide is the time to see them.

A visit to WWT London: Bob the heron arrived at exactly 2pm for the otters’ feeding time. Another heron could just be seen among the Australian pelicans and a third was sunbathing near the white storks. Herons know where to get their food! @adamlittle.bsky.social @everyheron.bsky.social #birds

Not sure what he was doing here. He seems to be looking for fish but it was a three foot drop to the surface and deep water. It's probably just as well he didn't see any. Maybe he had been watching the local kingfisher and thought he might try the same technique. @everyheron.bsky.social

The heating helps bring to the surface hard to reach feather mites which it can pick off with its beak 🥢 It was probably gular fluttering as well... Vibrating its throat to pull in cool air to counter its decision to stand in the hottest sunniest spot in the pond. 🔥
