Happy weekend one and all! 📍Kings Cross Station 🗓️ 21/7/2022

In 2024 I walked the scenic railways of Wales… Holyhead to Pembroke Dock via Conwy Valley, Cambrian Coast, Shrewsbury & Heart of Wales! Wales was a very hilly 400 miles! This year not so hilly… but it will be about 300 miles longer! Can’t wait to share the route with you all!

In September 2023 I walked just under 400 miles from London Paddington to Penzance following the Great Western Mainline! What a walk it was! Not long until I share where I’m walking this year 👀

The sun was trying to shine at Arnside today! The cooler day was most definitely welcome though!

Just remember to smile If you're feeling happy that's the place to let it show And it will make things so much better when you're feeling low

For all the bad press Britain’s public transport gets, it is still pretty amazing that it can get me from Cumbria to the back end of nowhere! Soon as I get a spare 15 minutes I’ll post how you can visit the amazing Applecross & Isle of Raasay using only public transport!

Of course I made a dash for the lake! And how I was repaid for my jog to the lake!

And back where this trip started… in Windermere! Now do I risk a run to the lake before my bus home?!?!

Back onboard good old local Northern! In time for sunset for an added bonus!!!

From the land of The Proclaimers To the land of its coming home… Disused station in clip too… but which one?

And just like that… my time in Scotland comes to an end! Always nice travelling around Scotland! Great to see Glasgow Central mostly fully open again. Always a nice place to stand for a few minutes watching the world go by! Time to head back south of the border!

It’s time to start the journey home. Kick starting the journey with a ScotRail HST! Obviously a little first class upgrade! At only £15 to upgrade onboard it really is the best way to travel on these old trains! Nice to see the Network Rail flying banana make an appearance!

Spent my day so far doing some work then went for a little walk down to the south pier. Just chilling now having a drink before I head to the station for my train!

And made it to Aberdeen! Someday that, Applecross to Raasay to Aberdeen in one day!

Fair play to the coach driver! Took us from 30L to only 9L. And we broke down twice more after first time! Now onboard a 5 car ScotRail service to Aberdeen! Enjoying some declassified first class for this journey.

Coach developing a fault was not on my wish list today! We on move again after 25 minutes in lay-by. My 30 minute connection to the last Aberdeen train is looking at risk! Let’s hope some time is made up by time it gets to Inverness 😬

From ferry to coach at Sconser. From happy place to Inverness! Making use of the £2 highlands cap again. £2 from Skye to Inverness is crazy for a 92 mile journey.

Every single time I visit Raasay it gets prettier every single time!!!

Time for a ferry!!! I’m off to Raasay 🙂🙂🙂

After a lovely run along the Kyle line! It’s time to swap train to coach and head on to Skye! Kyle station always looks amazing! But extra so in this weather. Leg space on coach is awful. Imagine doing Glasgow to Skye on this 😬

Goodbye bus, hello train! Now time to head to Kyle of Lochalsh! Love these little request stops on the Kyle Line. They just so perfect!

There’s worse places to wait for the timetabled departure time!

A very enjoyable walk from Applecross down to Toscaig pier! Good weather with a good sea breeze made for good walking conditions! This area is just stunning!
