Uuuupppp, a couple of days late….i am so behind with everything…but September is here and so is the new month’s calendar page :) I have done a tiny bit of drawing, but most of my time is going to my son who is getting chunkier by the day :) 🦔 #calendar #zines #comics #pattern #smallpress #myson

A hand-drawn calendar page with patterns, flowers, mushrooms and leaves.

My son’s legs and hands while he is lying asleep on the bed, dressed in a stripy sleep suit.

Ellen Viola @evtso.bsky.social · 4mo ago

I finished this on time… and then descended into full on potato mode and didn’t print or upload it 😑😑😑 but my potato form has managed to grow small legs today which have done some cutting and sewing and here we are :) 🦔 #zines #smallpress #illustration #drawing #一次創作 #同人誌 #altcomics

The cover of an illustrated zine with an apartment building and some leaves. The building is in its summer mode so it has lost a chimney as the weather is too warm for a fire.

Pages from the zine showing Hiccup the cat being annoyed that the toad is pretending to be a monarch.

Later on in the zine the toad decides to swallow the ceiling light that has been creating a warm glow. The toad enjoys eating away others’ joy.

Oat the owlet is angry with the toad for stealing the light. Hiccup has passed on the problem to Oat and says, ‘looks like you’ve got a real mess on your wings here.’

An illustrated envelope covered in hawthorn blossom and hawthorn leaves.

A set of four illustrated zines with leaves, flowers and patterns on the covers, and with detective Tso running, Fraser the cat, and a glimpse of a forest bird.

Ellen Viola @evtso.bsky.social · 5mo ago

a couple of pages from last week’s zine :) I think I’m getting slowly better at picking a colour paper that compliments the ink colours I choose….slowly, slowly….forever a work in progress 🦊 🦔 #zines #smallpress #illustration #drawing #一次創作 #同人誌 #altcomics

An illustrated zine page of Fraser the cat daydreaming about being up in the clouds. Our hero cat floats up into the sky, as light as air.

An illustrated zine page of a field mouse finding a sequinned shoe and wondering where the other one is. And the Toad, having abandoned its friends…in search of cake.

Ellen Viola @evtso.bsky.social · 5mo ago

the may mail brings the mid-spring sun :) and a relaxed-looking detective Tso and Fraser the cat - they must be sunbathing on the forest floor :) 🌷🌞🌼 these are available throughout the month in the snail mail club 🐌 🦔 #zines #stickers #snailmail #一次創作 #smallpress #同人誌 #zinemaking #zinester

🌷 yesterday’s zine in the evening sun :) 🌷 Fraser is missing being perched up amongst the clouds…and detective Tso is missing being the only one with an ear trumpet 🙃 🦔 #zines #smallpress #illustration #drawing #一次創作 #同人誌 #altcomics

The cover of an illustrated zine with Fraser the cat perched up in the clouds and lamenting the future return to the ground. There is also a shuffling creature who ears twigs and cherry blossom. And an illustration of some flowers.

Detective Tso hides in a bin and then makes the brave leap out…and also finds a hat that has a mind of its own. You’ve got to keep an eye on hats like these…

The hat appears to be talking to Tso…or is it a wily owlet… Oat the owlet is annoyed at being ignored and vows to show ultimate strength.

Tso finds an ear trumpet to listen out for spectacular things. Oat is angry and gets an ear trumpet out too…much to Tso’s disappointment. Sometimes you want to be the only one with something.

Ellen Viola @evtso.bsky.social · 6mo ago

some pages from Friday’s zine, full of a grumpy owlet, peril, danger, tree climbing, success, suspicion, a chase, and emotion 🙃 #zines #smallpress #illustration #drawing #一次創作 #同人誌 #altcomics

The front cover of a zine, with illustrations of Oat the owlet looking grumpy after being ignored.

Tso and Fraser have no idea what to do about the fallen tree outside the cafe. There’s also a map of the area around the cafe which includes a launderette and a florist.

Tso faints with the thought of heights, then daydreams about whether it would be nice to float amongst the clouds and pick the best apples from the tops of the trees.

The pirate stoat is still hunting down our spy team. When Tso wakes up, the amazing detective feels as though there is someone out there watching…

Ellen Viola @evtso.bsky.social · 6mo ago

some pages from last week’s zine… the toad is on a health kick…although not too happy about it! 🙃 🦔🦔🦔 #zines #smallpress #illustration #drawing #一次創作 #同人誌 #altcomics

The cover of an illustrated zine where the toad has eaten way too many cakes and now looks like a bowling ball.

More pages from the zine with the toad having to start a new health regime and detective Tso is running away from a scary thing.

Here, detective Tso is finding it difficult to sleep as there are crows cawing on the roof. The field mice are dancing through the shadows of the dream world.

The back page of the zine with three heroes battling and giant spider. Did you know that spider legs taste like chocolate when it’s Easter? ;)

The cover of an illustrated zine with a cityscape under a starry sky, and detective Tso chasing a pirate and shouting, Don’t do that, stop, stop, wait!!

Owlet Oat manages to fish for the pirate hat…and finds it is of the origami transformer variety! Meanwhile, the apartment mouse finds three green grapes that have rolled under the sideboard.
