The good answer is B (11). Cosmic Suture generates a shielding-prevention effect, which prevents a specified amount of damage. If a 'this cant be prevented' effect applies, then the shielding-prevention is not spent. Compare the language of the two cards for hints to spot these! #fabtcg #fabjudges

Tyler attacks Nic with their sword for 6 with go again. In the reaction step, Nic plays Cloud Cover (red) and Cosmic Suture (red). Tyler plays Jagged Edge, hits, then plays Command and Conquer. Assuming no other cards are played/defended with, how much total damage does Nic take? #fabtcg #fabjudges

The good answer is C. Ley Line's trigger will occur for each individual damage event within Sense Weakness' multi-event, as well as the initial damage event against the opposing hero, for 3 total triggers (and seismic surges) total. #fabtcg #fabjudges

Nic controls 2 allies. Tyler controls a  Ley Line of the Old Ones and plays Sense Weakness. They attack and hit Nic. After everything resolves, how many seismic surges did they make? #fabtcg #fabjudges

The answer is C! No one gains health. The why is tricky: the ability is written from the perspective of the controller or owner (Tyler) controls it as the chain closes. Additionally, the card is considered before it changes zones (CR3.0.7a) for the purposes of the trigger. #fabtcg #fabjudges

Tyler hits with Infiltrate and banishes Sirens of Safe Harbor, then attacks with it. When the combat chain closes, what happens next? #fabtcg #fabjudges

The good answer is B. TRP 3.4: if the judge rules the game a stalemate, the procedure starts at Step 2, skipping the Step 1 progress warning - unnecessary when no progress is possible. Step 2 decides the game by highest life total. #fabtcg #fabjudges

During an elimination match, Tyler and Nic reach a true stalemate - a locked loop, with no legal progress. The judge starts the end-of-match procedure. At which step do they start? #fabtcg #fabjudges (Photo © John Brian McCarthy)

The road to L2 looks different for every judge! In this article series, Eric Lee interviews and reflects on the stories of recently certified Level 2 judges from across the program. Today, we're focusing on a duo of judges from South America: Gabriel Núñez and Lu Cordeiro! #fabtcg #fabjudges

The good answer is A. TRP 3.5: intentional draws are allowed any time except elimination rounds. If an elimination match would draw (stalemate, deadlock, or mutual defeat), a judge guides the players through the end-of-match procedure (3.4) to find a winner. #fabtcg #fabjudges

During a Top-8 elimination. Tyler and Nic are Deadlocked. Tyler and Nic agree they'd both rather draw the match and move on. Can they? #fabtcg #fabjudges (Photo © John Brian McCarthy)

The good answer is B. TRP 5.14 (new): if a player doesn't declare an attack or damage target where multiple are possible, the default is the opposing hero - in this case Dromai. The dragon is a living object (a legal target), but the default still resolves to the hero. #fabtcg #fabjudges

Nic is playing as Dromai and controls an Aether Ashwing. Tyler plays Nucleus Aetherbolt and deals 3 damage to Nic's hero, but doesn't declare a target for the second ability. Who is targeted and dealt damage? #fabtcg #fabjudges

The good answer is B. No. PPG 2.3: when a trigger is missed, its cascading triggers - those that would only have triggered had it not been missed - are also missed, resolved in sequence. Trap-Door's search is one, and being optional it defaults to not having been generated. #fabtcg #fabjudges

Quiz of the Day! At their end phase, with Nic marked, Tyler (Arakni, Marionette) doesn't roll to become an Agent of Chaos. Nic takes a turn. Fixing the missed trigger, Tyler rolls into Arakni, Trap-Door. Do they get its "when you become this" search? #fabtcg #fabjudges (Photo courtesy Eric Lee)

The good answer is A. Yes. The creation of the Lightning Flow token is a sub-event of the prevention, and happens before the original event occurs (6.4.1a) Because it exists before it begins to occur, its prevention effect can be applied to Tap Lessons Past's remaining damage. #fabtcg #fabjudges

In a game of Omens of the Third Age limited, Tyler plays Tap Lessons Past (blue). Nic activates Starflow Robes and Prevents 1 of the arcane damage, creating a Lightning Flow token. Since their Lightning Flow has Spellvoid 1, can they apply it to the remaining 1 damage? #fabtcg #fabjudges

The answer is B — Game Loss. Per PPG 3.6, passing a pack the wrong way is a Minor violation only if discovered before the next pick. Discovered after, it irreversibly compromises the draft and becomes a Major violation. #fabtcg #fabjudges

At a Road to Nationals, Tyler passes a draft pack the wrong way. The error is discovered after the next draft pick has been made. What is the correct ruling? #fabtcg #fabjudges (Photo © John Brian McCarthy)
