We have a new baby, named Buddy. We lost lovely Middy in 2021, our beloved Sonny in 2024, and our sweet little Poppy just three weeks ago. Now we have Buddy, another stray we took in (all of cats have found us as strays).

Since I didn't want to pay for AI to make my inspirational picture of myself with a giant cat, I did it myself. Guys, I feel my creative rut lifting.
Wow, I think making a picture of myself with a giant animal will finally pull me out of my rut and get the creative juices flowing again. Thank you AI!!!

This seat is $800 more than the steerage class I sat in. $800 for more leg room. And they sell! Every one was taken.
GREG THAT WAS THE JOKE! That’s why I very specifically said Welles and 1950s!
Just a quick note to @sonnybunch.bsky.social who said that the casting of Helen of Troy would not have been a black woman in, say, the 1950s by someone like Orson Welles. In 1950, in his Paris theatrical production of FAUST, Welles cast Eartha Kitt as Helen of Troy.
I could do a thousand videos and podcasts on chuds being sad about THE ODYSSEY and never get tired of them. I will do a thousand such podcasts. The gods said it can’t be done. But I know better. Better even than the gods.

“He didn't need to cast these people for diversity purposes. He cast them because they're the best actors... anybody who argues otherwise doesn't know a thing about film.” @sonnybunch.bsky.social dismantles Elon Musk’s attack on Christopher Nolan and points out that even Grok keeps correcting him.
July 16 and the local grocery store already has up the Halloween candy. That's really cutting it close, I would've gone with May 16, myself.
Don't ever ask me why I'll never eat a pie with my love It's understood Cause eating pies by my love Never Taste too Gooooooooddd Whoa wa wo wo
Hi guys. It's time for my bi-monthly check in. Um... Hi.
I gave up writing essays because the TCM stuff has been reduced to newsletter posts and other offers are access media crap for little money. I'd take an offer from the Times but I don't use AI or steal so I guess I won't wait by the phone.
Jaysus Effin' Christ. I hope this leads to a better policy of scrutiny. www.nytimes.com/2026/01/06/b...
This short passage from Night Flight perfectly describes how I feel each morning when I wake up.
My favorite section on the TCM category of HBOMax is the "Just Added, Leaving Soon" section. You've got to be quick to see the movies in this section.
This had me curious since there is not a single unreleased album only song by the Beatles that has been forgotten, much less a number one hit, and sure enough, these are five classics that the writer desperately wants to convince himself are forgotten. They are not.
I knew this post of mine would get little love because, Christ have mercy, do people love to believe that the country is ready to stand up together, that even maga folks are coming around. Jfc. These Trump voters think he's great and they always will. You cannot sway them.
I don't believe for a second we are roaring. Trump's approval is 39%. People love to exclaim how low that is but of registered voters, that's 67 million people. That's practically everyone who voted for him still supporting him. I'm 10 years into hearing how Trump is finally done and I'm exhausted.

It's no longer left versus right or even Democrat versus Republican. It’s now democracy versus oligarchy. Freedom versus dictatorship. Right versus wrong. People are awakening to this new reality — and they're speaking up. The sleeping giant of America is roaring.
I watched Boogie Nights again last week for the first time in years and despite how good to great everyone is in it, there's an argument to be made that Alfred Molina gives the greatest performance out of everyone.
I watched The Outer Limits episode The Forms of Things Unknown yesterday (dp Conrad Hall) and it was, without question, one of the best lit and photographed episodes of a television show I have ever seen. Screenshots cannot do justice to how expertly Hall works the camera.
Making drinks at home, I always remark how I get buzzed so much faster now as I age. When I don't get equally buzzed at a bar, I assume the drinks are watered down. Then, last week, we're at the airport and I get four mini bottles and down 'em. Nothing. I'm just mixing really strong drinks at home.
The downfall began when Ross McElwee and Michael Moore decided they were more interesting than anything they were "documenting." CGI sequences and drone shots put the final nail in the coffin. Les Blank and the Maysles/Maysles/Zwerin triumvirate remain my favorites. Barbara Kopple another great.
What I want is a TV documentary channel entirely devoted to documentaries with no quick-cut montages of everything about to happen, which don't give a fuck about keeping my attention, presented by extremely knowledgeable people in a terrible mood who have no interest in trying to make me like them.
In 2026, every single time some asshole tries to tell you you have to accept a self-evidently false assertion as something you're required to debate, reply "fuck you." And block them.
Not a cell phone in sight. Just people living in the moment.

Mediocre throwaway jokes now get entire articles. Present day entertainment writing depresses me in a way that makes me feel utterly broken as a human being.
She did not reference the Bible, she wrote a two page fundamentalist diatribe. Read it yourself, it's online. It's frighteningly extremist. This is a person who forcefully resists independent thought. Honestly mystified she is at any university outside of an extremist Christian college.
Watching IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE for the millionth time and goddammit, and I mean this in all sincerity, Jimmy Stewart and Lionel Barrymore give two of the greatest performances in cinematic history. Especially Stewart. Truly extraordinary command of his character. A brilliant performance.
Once Blondie and Dagwood go public domain on January 1st, I am tearing that shit up! Updated rom-coms, a Kill Bill send up with Blondie as the Bride and Dagwood as Bill, a whole series of YouTube shorts on sandwiches with me as Dagwood, and a daily comic strip where Dagwood is a stuffed tiger.
