It was amazing to meet you, Ira. Your students presented such cool work at the poster session, too. Hopefully I'll be back out to Bham if you want to show some of the bike routes!

Great presentation by @feadeh.bsky.social today that relates to argument on framing issues. 🧵 Fade Eadeh noted that standard finding and belief is that a focus on threats leads people to vote for more conservative people. But he noted, wisely, that too much research focused on one threat only! 1/

This story is framed in a way that misleads on the *actual* crisis of free speech, and the hypocritical double standard that welcoming conservative speech but suppressing the left. NYU bans criticism of Israel and silences student speech, while exempting Haidt from the same “standards.”

She noted that this year, the university has required that some student graduation speeches be recorded ahead of time, in response to complaints last year about a student speaker who criticized Israel.

The same rules, however, do not apply to commencement speakers like Dr. Haidt.

I read this entire article and could not for the life of me figure out why it was news. They picked a speaker, some students wrote a letter saying they don’t like the speaker. This is the sum total of what happened. www.nytimes.com/2026/05/13/u...

Question for those of you who study realistic/symbolic threat in intergroup/immigrant contexts: In stephan, ybarra, bachman 1999 are realistic and symbolic threat scales mislabeled in the appendix? Has anyone else run into this question? Thank you!

The people who lost children and other loved ones in the Texas floods are owed honest answers from officials. They should be told why flash flood warnings issued hours earlier were not conveyed to people in the path of the water. They don’t need more prayers from politicians. They need answers.
