Four digital portraits of the parents and older sister of my character Zayd, drawn on April 2026. Top right is the mother, Yaritza, a chubby older Black woman with a deep dark gingerbread skintone, pronounced smile lines, forehead wrinkles and a few age spots on her round cheeks. She has greying dark brown hair, shoulder-length curled dreadlocks, and bushy eyebrows plucked into an arched shape. At the top right is the father, Gerardo, a chubby Indigenous Black man with an amber brown skintone, thick lips and a wide nose, smile lines, some acne scars, heavy eyelids and crow's feet wrinkles. He has greying dark brown hair cut in a lined up buzz-cut, and a goatee. At the bottom left is the eldest daughter, Ixchel, an Indigenous Black woman with a rich bronze skintone, a flushed complexion, some acne scars on her pronounced cheeks, trimmed thick eyebrows, a wide nose, thick lips and a square chin. She has warm black hair styled in a short afro. At the bottom right is Ixchel's younger sibling, Zayd, an Indigenous Black thin person with a deep walnut brown skintone, prominent acne scars, dark eyebags, hollow cheeks, a wide nose with an arched bridge, thick lips, heavy eyelids and a square chin. He has black thick shoulder-length dreadlocks tied into a low ponytail, sparse stubble and bushy eyebrows.Previous designs for Zayd's family members, drawn on June 2025. Yaritza's eyes and nose are closer together, she has low thick eyebrows and heavy eyelids. She has braided hair up in a bun. Gerardo looks almost the same as his final design, except that he's a bit thinner here. Ixchel has a longer face shape, a thin top lip and thicker bottom lip, thinner eyebrows, a pronounced round chin and a nose very similar to Zayd's. Her hair is brown, tied up in a high big afro puff.Initial design attempts for Zayd's family members, drawn on May 2025. Yaritza has short bushy eyebrows and a surprised or worried expression, her skintone is a bit lighter, she has longer hair and looser curls, adorned with a small green hairpin. Gerardo is completely different from his final design, he's a thin non-Black Indigenous man, with short straight greying black hair, a receding hairline, a long wide nose, thin lips, and a small trimmed mustache and beard. Ixchel has a diamond-shaped face, brown long loose curls, a wide nose and eyes similar to Zayd's.
