late entry for #FenglianWeek25 day 1: gods/mortals! 我归心似箭 my heart, a homesick arrow 🏹G, 2k words (Ch 1/?) 🏹#fenglian 🏹canon divergent AU: FX, disguised as Nan Feng, finds XL in the mortal realm 🏹mutual pining, fluff & angst 🏹secret identity #风怜 @fenglianweek.bsky.social (link below)

Nan Feng threw his head back and laughed.
It was a bright, merry sound, rippling through the clear night air like light. Something about it transported Xie Lian right back in time to the old days in the palace, where he'd whisper a joke to Feng Xin during dull banquets that dragged on endlessly, and his best friend would burst into peals of wild laughter, clutching his ribs, gasping for air.
For a moment, Xie Lian couldn't breathe too, hit by a gut punch of nostalgia so strong that it stole the air from his own lungs.
He didn’t realize he was staring until Nan Feng asked, “Daozhang, what is it?”
“Nothing. It’s just…” Xie Lian paused, then glanced back at Nan Feng with a smile. “...You remind me of an old friend.”

AU in which Feng Xin, disguised as Nan Feng, finds Xie Lian in the mortal realm. (Based on nekoning's art)
