When Mahdilyn is executed for refusing to join Abel’s army, Rihalyn is sent to Wychlith, an academy that trains mages to serve Abel, where combat trials force magic to the surface, victories raise rank, and defeat costs pieces of a mage’s soul.

At Wychlith, light awakens. Darkness waits.
Rihalyn clings to one goal: survive long enough to reclaim her suppressed power, uncover what Mahdilyn hid, and learn why she died for it. But when Kieran, Abel’s son, takes her under his mentorship, she cannot tell whether he is shielding her from Abel or shaping her into something useful for his own rise. Kieran wields dark magic, the same force draining Runyan of its color, and every lesson awakens Rihalyn’s light while binding her more tightly to him.

If Abel finds her, he’ll drain her.
If Kieran loves her, he may destroy her.
Now she must decide who to trust before Abel senses the light waking inside her, Kieran’s darkness corrupts it, and what little color remains in Runyan vanishes forever.

Nora crosses her arms and scoffs, "Why can't you just hold yourself accountable?"
I tilt my head and squint my eyes. "I am."
"If you were, you'd say sorry."
"What? I did," I say. "Also, me admitting to fault is holding myself accountable."
Nora's glares at me, she looks infuriated.
"The problem has a solution Nora, there is no need to get upset. I'll replace it when I'm
done."
Nora's body stiffens and she slams her hand on the sink, causing me to flinch away from
her. "'m sick and fucking tired of having to constantly remind you to do the simplest shit."
"I forgot-"
Nora screams not even two inches from my face, "You are such a piece of shit, always
shitting on me!"
I jerk away from her terrifying tone.
"God, I want to slap the shit out of you."
