Government has held an incorporeal meeting where it agreed to oppose SF’s Irish Unity legislation on the grounds that it cannot impose artificial deadlines on a process that, by its very nature, requires patience, partnership and enduring consent.

The Coalition leaders have tonight decided to extend the current excise reductions on petrol and diesel until 1 September 2026 in a package totalling €270 million. After this date the previous rates will be gradually restored over four dates from Sept to end of year.

A gradual reduction in excise cuts on petrol and diesel is set to be discussed by Government party leaders on Monday. It is now understood that a timeline which would see the excise reductions gradually phased out is being drawn up. This would possibly happen over 2 or 3 dates.

Uisce Éireann have been asked to postpone any non-urgent repairs that would interrupt water supply over the next few days. The request was made by Housing Minister James Browne who expressed serious concern about the impact of water outages on the public.
