In 2014, Marvel released two wildly different films that each redefined the MCU — The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy. Thunderbolts* builds on both traditions. Equal parts oddball and essential, it may be the most recognizably Marvel film since Endgame. It’s also one of the boldest.

#CaptainAmerica:BraveNewWorld is one of Marvel’s more uneven entries to date. Mackie and Ford are predictably great. Carl Lumbly and Danny Ramirez are standouts as Isaiah Bradley and Joaquin Torres. And the action is fun all around. But a weak script and rough editing job weigh the film down.
