“God, the names. First Caius and now you. Both of you sound like you’re repeating a mantra or a script. Why is everyone so obsessed with names around here?”
“Because that’s what we are. Monster hunters who’ve lasted generations. It means something when you can trace your blood all the way back to the foundation of the Chimeras. Or if you have enough wealth, you’re untouchable.” He sighs. “I fucked up and didn’t search the perimeter properly and some human kills half my promotion case. And then to have my best friend and chosen partner vouch so desperately for the one who got in our way to join us.” He exhales shakily. “And you want to know the worst part of all of this? You’re sweet. To everyone. To Stella, to Tad, to me. After what I’ve said and how I’ve ignored you. And Tad…he’s never acted the way he has since he found you that night. You’re friendly, your presence lights him up, how could I hate you for a clear accident? And yet…the judgement from everyone is suffocating.”

CHICKEN: In which Tad explains what attribute he's gotten from each monster injection, while leaving the one Lily wants to know about most out of the explanation.

“Ghosts don’t have blood, right? There’s no option for an injection there. Gorgons and basilisks have poisonous blood. We learned the hard way, centuries ago, injecting that shit was deadly. No injection. With the werewolf blood, I was gifted the ability to see in the dark. Vampire blood was the blessing of never being allowed in sunlight, púca blood is the reason my hair is white.”
I wait for him to continue about the horns. He only stares at me, his mischievous smile something of a taunt. Like we’re playing a silent game of chicken. Who’s going to mention them first?
“And the horns?” Me, I guess.

When you're a city girl and the clearest night sky you've seen is the moon and her brightest companions, then on your 18th birthday you're a thick glass wall away from the cosmos.

But there are so many. More than I’ve seen in my entire life. I grew up in this city. I’ve experienced navigation by flickering streetlamps, rainbow Christmas light constellations, and wishes on headlights. The only night sky I’ve ever known is the moon, the planets, and the brightest stars. The few vacations we took when I was a kid, given the flowers in the store, were in other cities. Of course, I’ve seen photographs of the universe, but none of them come close to the radiance shattering my mind.
And one day, I’ll step inside and risk my life for immense power.

I stop because I only want to be alone with him. It doesn’t matter where. I take off the bright red wig, then the nylon cap, and I search for every bobby pin I used to hold the net cap to my head. It’s a struggle since I’m holding the wig and several pins already while trying not to drop any of them. Tad takes my hands, bringing them away from my head. He calmly picks up where I left off, running gentle fingers over the net cap and finding the last few pins. He gives them to me then carefully pushes the cap off my head. My pastel pink hair falls in loose, messy waves around my shoulders. His hand covers his heart. “There she is. If I faint here in the hall, know it’s because you’ve stolen the air from my lungs.”
“I was told you loved Jessica Rabbit.”
“Of course. She’s a crazy hot character in a great movie. But I loved her when I was twelve. This,” he says as he tucks my hair behind one of my ears, “is infinitely better.”

I'm glad you asked! 1st: A currently untitled YA urban fantasy, dual POV. We follow Calliope Reid, a demon hunter who becomes possessed by the soul of an angel, and Orion, the reaper who's hellbent on saving her before the angel's soul consumes Calliope's. #RevPitWaiting

“Where’s Hannah.” A little girl shimmers into view in front of me. She sits cross-legged. Her dress is wrinkled and dirty, and her brown hair is a mess. She scans me. “You’re pretty.”
God…a real ghost. I grew up watching ghost hunting shows, and I’ve always believed they were real. Sitting and talking to one is an experience eleven-year-old me didn’t think she’d ever have.
I smile at her. “Thank you. Hannah is visiting her grandparents, but she’ll be back in a few days. She was worried you’d be lonely, so I offered to play with you until she returns. My name is Lily, and he’s Caius, but you can ignore him. He was bad, so he doesn’t get to play princesses.”
Caius rolls his eyes at me.

“Sorry,” he lets go. “Not that one. You’ll find out about the sixteenth floor when you become a Chimera.”
“When? You sound so sure.”
“Believe me, you’re gonna say yes.” He steps closer and points at the buttons. “Two to five are bedrooms. There are a few on the first floor we can look at so you can get an idea of what those look like.”
“Can’t I see yours?”
He raises a brow at me, a mischievous smile curling his lips. “You either have to be friend status or take me on a minimum of three dates before you can invite yourself into my bedroom, Easter Lily.”

“What are you doing?”

Caius stands in the doorway of the training room with a navy duffle bag in one hand. He looks at me with furrowed brows, and I can’t entirely fault him for it. I sit in the center of the room snapping my fingers over a pink cherry blossom scented candle.

“Plan B. But it’s not working so I guess it’s up to Plan C.” I gesture to him before putting the candle on the floor against the wall with my water bottle.

“What was Plan A?” He drops his bag against the weapons wall to my left.

“Waiting for my attribute to manifest itself. Even if that meant self-combustion in the library.” I imagine what my dad must’ve seen when the elemental burst into flames in the store. “I’m done waiting. We’re going to force it out.”
