In PNG's Enga Province, immunisation data looks good on paper, but coverage remains low. Ms Rita Ephraim looked more closely at why: inconsistent record-keeping means children who've missed vaccines aren't being followed up. She's now testing interventions to fix that.

During her Intermediate #FETP, Ms Emma Kitan found industrial runoff was putting Morobe communities at higher risk of diarrhoeal disease. Her field project will strengthen industry compliance, improve community water and hygiene practices, and boost local response capacity.

The first quarter of 2026 has been a busy and productive one for Field Epidemiology in Action (FEiA). Key milestones include the graduation of the third cohort of field epidemiologists from the Solomon Islands FETP; commencement of the 11th cohort of iFETPNG, now fully accredited as a Diploma; preparations for launching national field epidemiology training programs (FETPs) in Vanuatu and Fiji (commencing later in 2026); and the completion of a practical economic modelling and planning tool to support the scaling of field epidemiology training in India.
