Got a good snap of the ruby-throated hummingbird (the female; male has a red front). Had to stand very still for ten minutes before it would approach the feeder ... and then it approached me! Buzzed around my head doing reconnaissance before returning to the feeder. I must've passed the trust test!

Really love the next IndyCar design (to be adopted starting 2028)! The wings are so cool. Airplane at the front, spaceship at the back. They said they are going for the speed record at Indy (237.498 mph), and they’re for sure going to get it with the new specs.

Watched the season premiere of Star Trek: #StrangeNewWorlds! Solid 4/5. It involves time shenanigans, which I know some don’t like. (Fans bemoaned it on Enterprise, especially.) But I don’t mind it. The implications (morally & historically) of this one are rather heady here! Impressive FX.

#NowWatching: ‘Midnight in Paris’ (2011) ‘While on a trip to Paris with his fiancée, a nostalgic, old-fashioned writer finds himself mysteriously transported to the 1920’s at the stroke of every midnight.’ Oscar winner for Best Original Screenplay, this fantasy is a warm, lovely delight.

#NowWatching: ‘Vicky Cristina Barcelona’ (2008) ‘Two Americans in Spain fall for the same man, a brooding artist, unaware that his even more explosive ex-wife is about to make their threesome a foursome.’ A zippy, steamy firecracker of a film! Penelope Cruz won an Oscar for playing the wife.

Spain! A Final that went extra time ... I'd say it was a good match! Not 'great,' cause it was 1-0, and Argentina wasn't doing much. But very happy with the winner, and I think the tournament was a rousing success. Based on this, you can probably expect it to be back in America.

Already waffling on seeing The Odyssey after all. It’s not the run time! It’s that I keep hearing how horror-coded it is (which … I guess the source material does have an extremely high body count, to be fair). I can handle spooks! But visceral horror unsettles me too much …

Argentina got SO inside England’s head with their comebacks this tourney that England went into ‘prevent defense’ as soon as they got a lead on them. With 40 minutes left in regulation! Against an aggressive team? With that much time? From up 1-0 to losing 1-2. Sorta brought that on themselves.

Went to bed at 2 AM last night, even though I had to wake up at 7. Followed the rain-delayed Cup race to completion in case my driver, Ryan Blaney, won. And he did! On a last lap pass in a smooth pink & green car! Had he lost, I would’ve flatlined by now. Winning gives you an energy boost!

Pre-‘The Odyssey’ and post-‘Digger’ trailer drop, I’ll call my Oscar shot right now (for posterity, 8 months out): the Spanish film ‘La Bola Negra’ (sight unseen by me) will win Best Picture! I’ve been right in my summer prediction (Anora & One Battle) the past 2 years, so we’ll see. #Oscars

Current WIP (tentatively titled 'Cat Scratch Fever') is a Charlie/Emerson farming town shenanigans story. It's at 5,761 words. I'm expecting it to breach 10,000 by the end! After that, I finally have an episode of Redwing (my Trek-y furry space serial) vaguely started. The opening scene, at least!

Seated at the Regal Cinema for my first theater showing since March! Seeing ‘The Invite,’ about a strained couple who invites their quirky neighbors over for dinner. When the neighbors suggest a foursome, things go off the rails. This plot sounds very me!

Argentina getting bailed out yet again! It’s one thing to have ‘lucky’ calls that lead to huge comebacks, but when it literally happens game after game after game … it starts to be less miraculous and more ‘hmmm … ‘

Oh, my goodness. Egypt was up 2-0 with 10 minutes left and are going to lose 3-2. Did Argentina get some 'friendly' (shady) calls to help them out? Yes. Did Egypt also choke? Also yes. Going to be a ton of discourse about this one! But it was a crazy exciting match. #WorldCup

England win 3-2! Will play Norway for a spot in the semis. Down a player for the whole second half. And Mexico was getting literally dozens of shots on goal to England's handful. In the heat and high altitude. What an intense, gutty performance.
