While I've relented in my boycott of the Re-Turn bottle scheme, I still hope the person(s) responsible for its design and implementation stubs their toe at least 3 times a week at a minimum. And one extra for each time a machine spits a bottle back at someone because the belt blocked the barcode.
It's Big Walk day! Been looking forward to playing this with some friends for ages

I assume any friend group has reminisced about a bully/annoying person in work/uni/school they didn't like & lost touch with once no longer forced to be around them. I also assume very few of those conversations end with thinking that person should be brought back into their lives "for balance".
"Bluesky is a political echo chamber" okay but I'm mostly here to chat with fun internet people and post art and make jokes, I cannot stress how much I don't care
The absolute gall of this long weekend actually coming to a close. The sheer audacity.
Someone I passed in the street handed me a pamphlet on how to find Peace. It's through Jesus, apparently. Handy to know in case it comes up in future.
Brand New Day is the new #2 live action Spiderman movie. Very pleasantly surprised to rank it that high. Spiderman 2 is still undefeated, but this new one is a much fuller meal than I expected it to be.
Seagulls having a great day of #LimerickCity this afternoon, which is looking very well in the grey and low tide. #Speirgorm
"I went to Jordan Peterson's anti-woke conference to hear Nigel Farage speak in 2026" should be an excessively disqualifying thing to have to explain. Not just politically, but as an adult person meant to be taken seriously in anything.
Noel Grealish attended ‘anti-woke’ conference addressed by Nigel Farage. Department of Agriculture confirms his attendance at the event but says the Minister of State for Agriculture was present in personal capacity. www.irishtimes.com/politics/202...
!! Still not jinxing it, but !!!! Hopefully a bigger update in just a few more weeks.
! This will be the last I'll say on this topic here for a few months so as not to jinx it, but !!!
Reposting this as it's relevant here too. It needs noting that data centres do not need that many people to be hired relative to their size, once fully built. They are not factories bustling with employees; they are cavernous, empty facilities run by a handful of engineers and security guards.
Hassett: "Data centers are very good for towns bc they create so many jobs & bring people in with high incomes that can buy houses & stuff like that. So if you take a sleepy town that hasn't seen much in the last 30 years & put a data center there, there are gonna be a bunch of happy residents."
The correct answer is "Increased concerns around bike theft". I once asked a 7yr old cousin why they aren't on the bike as much these days and they said "Have you seen the latest crime statistics? Up 4% year-on-year!" as they slapped the broadsheet newspaper they were reading for emphasis.
Ireland Thinks poll. Why are kids cycling less? Um, the answer I want to give isn't there.

One of my minor pet peeves in modern gaming is the use if the term "skin" in character customisation. Not "outfits", not "costumes"; we settled on "skins" because we're so normal about things as we play our games alongside eating our fava beans with a nice Chianti.
I spoke to someone at a wedding celebration last week who has worked as a translator in Dublin for many years. While originally they had a team of 4-6 translators, nowadays it is just her, alone, spot-checking AI output.
“She’s just a translator” shows that you don’t understand what translation is. Some of this comes from the ‘automation’ of translation, through things like Google translate. It’s as though it’s just looking words up in a dictionary. No. It’s an art and a science at once. To get meaning and feeling.
This is bs and will hurt far more than fast fashion or goods coming from China -- if Trump did this the EU would be crying but because the messaging was targeted as China and younger people bring wasteful, there was some very weird media coverage on it:
The new EU customs regime on small parcels in Ireland is very expensive. It is €3 per small parcel with a "handling fee" of €6.95. You'd think you could batch the parcels when you are paying the customs fee and only pay the handling fee once, but no. Handling fee is PER PARCEL, not per transaction.
Pitching my Backrooms sequel "Frontrooms" featuring that never-used living room at Nana's house where the furniture is covered in plastic and the air smells forbidden.
Clearsky informs me I'm on a list named "unk test" Is this how I find out I'm Unc?
This feels a spit in the face of libraries putting great effort into digitising old books with the care not to destroy the original.
No longer content with pillaging intellectual work and dismembering our environment (already critically weakened), AI companies are now hellbent on destroying books galore including rare editions. Shut down these nefarious enterprises already.
Hey lads, we already asked the Taoiseach if the water use of data centres could be measured and he rightly threw a fit in the Dail about people not being able to use facebook and twitter if we did that. Just turn off the hoses and stop looking at data centres, they're fine, stop asking about it.
Data down the drain: As householders live under a hosepipe ban, data centres have a transparency problem no one wants to solve... jrnl.ie/7114784
I decided to write a letterboxd review with words, which I haven't really done much of, but it picked up the fact that I wrote that I had watched it more than once, and so the website played a video of one of the actors thanking me for watching it more than once. I did not like that.
There is no point in listening to Sam Altman speak, his words are just empty calories. He is aural rabbit meat.
lol, no, that's not a thing
Hi Blueskis (it’s like broskis? I dunno, I’m trying something, gimme a break) I’m running a 10k in October having not run any substantial distance in over 10 years, and I’m raising funds in the process for a suic1d3 patrol team in my home town called Treaty Su1cid3 Prevention ❤️
