I don’t want to belabor this but I have seen people now saying that Boots Theory is simply about rich people paying less for stuff. That’s it. Anything where that is true is Boots Theory. The rest of Boots Theory is a postscript à la Antonin Scalia reading the Second Amendment I guess.

Sick day, just finished Send Help. Super fun, super gross, loved it. It’s like if you put Triangle of Sadness, Barbarian, and Drag Me to Hell in a blender.
It simply does not follow that because the cost per unit good is cheaper if you buy in bulk, the cost of a cheap version of a good times how often you have to replace it is greater than the cost of the expensive version of the same. These are two different things.

Yeah, I’ve been thinking about this, and there are lots of other reasons than durability that products become more expensive. Brand name. Trendiness. Luxury materials. Those aren’t meaningfully correlated with durability.

E.g.: if you pay $5 for a whatsit, it lasts a year. If you pay $10 for a whatsit, it lasts 3 years. This is an absolute mathematical requirement for the theory to make sense.
I’m glad people are enjoying them but I was just looking up the lengths of these Dungeon Crawler Carl books, and there’s like 4,700+ pages so far? With 2-3 more books planned? I just have a hard time getting my head around this.

I think this piece is interesting, and I understand that Wilson is never going to be a fan of Nolan’s Odyssey. This piece is better about it, but one of my least favorite things about criticism is bemoaning what one thinks a thing should have been rather than engaging with what it is.

My prior here is that 1) people are processing “favorable to DSA” as “more left” (synonymous with “more liberal”) and 2) Trump’s support of tariffs polarizes the issue so the further you feel from republicans, the worse feelings you express about Trump’s policies.
