My closing statement regarding this weekend's TailTag incident, the future of the idea, and a more formal, personal apology.

As was reported yesterday, TailTag suffered a security breach that resulted in a rouge notification being sent to devices who had it downloaded and notifications enabled. Further investigation revealed many more vulnerabilities and attack vectors in the app's database, resulting in a security incident where user data was publicly available and breached. There is no evidence that sensitive account access information like passwords were accessible, but this still qualifies as a personal data breach. After the investigation of the breach concludes, this iteration of TailTag will be permanently deleted. Apps will be removed from their respective app stores, the database will be deleted, and the source code will be scrapped. However, I am open to restarting the project from scratch if and only if there are community members that would like to work together on it with me. If you are interested in helping recreate this game from the ground up together, please let me know and I will create a group of us to work on it. Otherwise, I will not pick up the project again.

Finally, I do want to personally apologize once more for all of this. There are no excuses for how poorly I executed this idea. The excitement of trying to bring something fun and engaging to the community blinded my judgement of the tools being used during development. AI was used extensively in building this project and I became addicted to the speed of getting something out there for people to enjoy and as a result, did not properly assess the risks of moving with such recklessness. I now realize the severity of my actions, and am frankly embarrassed that I abused the trust that I've built in this community and took advantage of it so frivolously in hindsight. It is a wrongdoing I take full responsibility for and will carry with me for the rest of my life.

This now marks a key point of my time the fandom; from today on, my singular goal as a member of this community is to rebuild the trust that I previously worked so hard to establish up to this point. It will not be easy, but nothing worth doing is, and I will be coming out of this with my head held high and with a newfound ambition to being the best furry that I can be. Hopefully in time, the trust that I lost from this incident can be regained by the fandom that I have fallen in love with. From now on, any time taken out of my life to do so will be time well spent.

If you got a random notification from TailTag yesterday, here's what happened.

As benign as the notification content was, this was still a serious design oversight that will not be taken lightly, and I personally apologize for both the unintended app behavior, but more importantly, the loss of trust in the security of TailTag. I got caught up in the excitement of getting this project out for all of you to play that I overlooked some important details regarding account access control that resulted in this compromise. I suggest changing your password if you haven't already and be wary of any emails that look suspicious or ask for you to log in with TailTag credentials. If you choose to delete your account due to this, your data will be removed with no questions asked.

I am still confident in the value that TailTag brings to the community and do not have any immediate plans to shut it down. However, I will be moving much more carefully in its development, including pausing any feature work until I am confident in account security. If you have any questions, please reach out and I will answer them for you.

Many valuable lessons were learned this weekend. I will be doing my best to not only prevent something like this from happening again, but to gain your trust back for this project.
