We caught a bit of the European Athletics marathon yesterday - fun spotting familiar landmarks like the jewellery store we got our friends' wedding pressie and the office my former boss moved to. But what is that huge new skyscraper thingie in Birmingham city centre? It looks awful... so spindly...

I’ve been messing about with my new oil pastels again, this time with a view across Derwentwater. I’m still learning how they work but am pleased with how it turned out, especially the light on the fellside. I’ll keep practising!

For a complete change we headed to the Aquarium of the Lakes this morning - hadn't been for ages, so good to see it looking sprucer than last time. Loads of fish, of course, but also leaf-cutter ants, poison dart frogs, otters (asleep) and my favourites, harvest mice. I could watch them for hours!

Watching the eclipse thru special glasses. Trying to take a photo is REALLY hard - you can't see the phone through the glasses, but you can't take the glasses off because sun. 😝☀️

Had coffee with a friend at the Mission cafe in Windermere and couldn't resist sketching the view of the distant Coniston fells over the rooftops. The photo makes it look tilted but it's not that bad in reality! 😂 Second pic is a lovely Peacock butterfly we saw on the way.

TG Jones/WH Smith in Windermere closing down and has some good bargains on art stuff. Treated myself to some oil pastels, and messed around seeing what I could do with them. Bit weird, more like wax crayons! The umbrellas are from an artwork in Westmorland Shopping Centre in Kendal a few years ago.

Absolutely delighted that These Mist-Covered Mountains, my charcoal drawing of mist swirling over Cat Bells at Derwentwater, sold yesterday at the Windermere Art Society exhibition. The event is on for another week and there's still plenty of amazing art on display, so why not drop in? It's free!

Just back from a clamber up to Kendal Castle, checking it out ready for a solar eclipse event next week. Pleased to say it should be possible to lug telescopes up there and get a great view!

My mini canvas of the rocky tunnel in the garden at Allan Bank in Grasmere (owned/run by @nationaltrust.org.uk), painted in acrylics, has just sold at Windermere Art Society's exhibition. I'm delighted! and hope the new owner enjoys finding wall space for all 6x6 inches of it. 😊

One of the pics I have in the Windermere Art Society exhibition. 'These Mist-Covered Mountains' (Dire Straits fans may recognise the reference!) Derwentwater, from the landing stages at Keswick to Cat Bells on a misty morning. See it until 15th August at Ladyholme Centre, Lake Road, Windermere.

Had a super time last night with OH, 4 friends and at least a hundred other guests at the preview night for Windermere Art Society's exhibition. Packed, hot but a roaring success! Artwork selling fast so come on down if you want to see the amazing art!
