Every reply to this on the other place is those who don't know basic terminology losing their minds, echoing the self-owning conflation of Zionism and Judaism (which usually offends them greatly). Some stuff is beyond parody. "How dare this hospital assert that the Jewish people continue to live!"

At Stratford to see Waiting for Godot, with Paul Gross. Saw Don McKellar in the crowd and ran into Mark McKinney on the street. It's all making me annoyed I'm missing the cast reading of the Slings & Arrows prequel here tomorrow night.
Famously, this movie opened the same weekend as When Harry Met Sally amid the same summer that saw Batman, Lethal Weapon 2,Ghostbusters II and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (among others). Few saw it in the theatre but I did, dammit.

A few years ago, I was going to a #Bluejays game and heard on the radio that Duane Ward was signing autographs if you donated to some charity. I grabbed an old card and found him sitting at some table in a corner. It's just always a privilege to meet these childhood heroes.
My wife told me to watch I WILL FIND YOU and too many years of training my brain from writing film location columns meant that I instantly spotted that "Boston" and "New York" were shot in Toronto/Hamilton and they totally re-used the courtroom set built for SUITS.

Great essay and almost exactly my experience. I knew Bragg a bit and Wilco by reputation but got this as one of my 12 free CDs from the BMG Music Club. I was completely sold by the time the band joined in with the drums. Never looked back on the album or on Wilco, who I should have found earlier.

Damn, Ken Jennings with some harsh hot takes on how terrible #BlueJays fans are. I can't decide if western Canadians are giving Toronto a bad name or if the Mariners being older than the Jays and not having a single championship to show for it is the real subtext here.
This is my biggest, random "celebrity" interaction since I somehow ended up with filmmaker Boots Riley (apparently, surprisingly unaware of the concept of connotation) explaining to me that "globalize the intifada" cannot possibly be violent because the word just innocuously means "uprising."

I use a jestful tone, but seriously, this article is utter 🦇💩 that talks about "Zionism" as a thing that bears no resemblance whatsoever to the actual lived experience of Canadian Zionists. The hyperlinked "sources" are a joke; It's somewhere between mere gaslighting and outright hate speech.

I regret I couldn't stop to get a picture but a neighbour had a massive, ugly bird perched on his car this morning. I'm pretty sure it was a turkey vulture (pictured) and if I came out of my house and saw this guy on my car, I'd be working from home that day.
A lot of gentiles tell Jews who are concerned about antisemitism that we're shutting down criticism of Israel by crying antisemitism. Most of the time, it's more that we're asking you to take a breath and *learn* how antisemitism manifests before you speak so that you don't fall into it when you do.

This a great interview. I mentioned elsewhere that I went to school and synagogue with Rabbi Gruschow and it is terrible to heat about the attack on her synagogue but great to hear her moral clarity and leadership.
