So, the care economy has 'exploded' and a heavily unionised workforce receiving 'hefty' pay increases deserve them, but only if the economy is 'strong' 🙄 Does Taylor realise that 'smaller government' and trickle down economics has been rejected, particularly by those on min. wage #auspol
I usually avoid Patricia Karvelas. Having now listened to her on the most recent Politics Now podcast, dealing with ON and Labor's approach to them, I'll continue to avoid her. #auspol
Hanson's appearance at the NFP yesterday should,if nothing else, be notable for one thing: she lacks any of the charisma or magnetism of Trump. With compulsory voting in Australia, cracks and fissures within her own party and policies will be glwringly obvious and ultimately damaging. #auspol
Catching up on yesterday's news, including Insiders. How Jennifer Hewett can state that the current conflict in the Middle East is not a white hot issue in America while keeping a straight face is either brilliant acting, or vacuous stupidity. Either way, it's entirely unbelievable. #auspol
"The thing is, voters like government services. They consistently vote for them; they consistently hate privatisations. Maybe the government could think about that fact, rather than worry about what media organisations that hate government spending think." Well said @grogsgamut.bsky.social
Hume and the Coalition aren't prepared to entertain hypotheticals, which may explain why they're determined and committed but haven't released any detailed policies. "You will see a genuinely different Coalition" The same Senator who said policies weren't the role of the Opposition. #auspol #730
Labor SA complaining about GST allocations to WA is as rich as it gets. Koutsantonis should savour the election victory and the near-extinction of the Liberal Party in SA, not seek to employ the politics of envy and create convenient excuses which he may seek to deploy in future. #auspol
"If you tax something there is less of it" The brain tax is real. Unfortunately for Jane Hume, she didn't have much to start with. #auspol
There are train wrecks, such as the Lib spill, and there are train wrecks like Abbott's interview on 7.30. Wow. Just wow. #auspol
Presumably Angus has the numbers. Well done, Angus. The only thing more damaging for the Libs now than Taylor being made leader would be for the spill to fail and Ley to retain her leadership. Either way, the degeneracy and distraction continues. #auspol
Ley upon assuming the leadership said that she and her party would listen to the Australian people. Despite this, she continues to use antisemitism as a political football, guided by her own misguided political instincts that continue to ring like a hollow bell in her tin ear. #auspol
"These are valid questions, and the NSW govt will obviously make its statements in due course. But because today is the day when people are in hospital beds and their families are by their sides, it's not a discussion that I will engage in." ... only discussion critiquing the Fed Gvt then Sussan?
The People vs Robodebt - shocking. Almost as shocking as the program's decision to represent Rachelle Miller, a political operative and central to the government's role in the scandal, as a victim. #auspol
Gee Sussan sounds as though she's struggling to even convince herself about many of her own answers. Understandable given the division and lack of discipline in her own party, as well as her just lacking any real insight or talent #auspol
Phil Coorey has clearly read his Coalition talking points prior to Insiders this morning #auspol
Angus Taylor is like a child's toy. You pull the string a few times and it's readily apparent that there's onlu a small, underwhelming number of predetermined responses. #auspol #730
So in 2018 the Libs could've had their first female leader in Julie Bishop. Fast forward 7 years and it's the Minister for Misappropriations who becomes the first female Liberal leader, beating out the Treasurer that never was. #auspol
Colour me shocked. Jane Hume was an author of the LNP's review of their previous train wreck 🤣 #auspol
Annabelle Crabb left the tie at home and chose the hot water bottle instead #auspol
Channel 7's debate coverage is cringeworthy. Plenty of gimmicks being employed in order to stretch time and 'hook' viewers. #auspol
Does Phil Coorey speak to anyone outside the Coalition? #auspol
Labor needs to continue to play offense. Taylor declining Chalmers' invitation to debate him reflects a clear weakness in the Opposition and should be exploited by Labor. Similarly, other strong performers like Clare and Gallagher should be spoiling for a fight with their shadow counterparts.
