More sad news from Ukraine today. Oleksiy Yukov, the leader of the Black Tulips group that bravely retrieved the bodies of soldiers - Ukrainians and Russians alike - so that their families could give them a proper burial, has died. Spending a day with Yukov was both inspiring and terrifying. RIP.

For months, the Trump administration has refused to pay lawyers and organizations that represent unaccompanied kids. Groups like the Defending Our Neighbors Fund are stepping up to fill the gaps and support trusted legal groups, but many kids face the real and tragic risk of facing court alone.

Trump Has A Tactic To Make It Easier To Deport Children

“We know what happens when children go to court without an attorney,” a lawyer said. “One word: deportation.”

As a Religious Studies professor, this directly targets my livelihood in a way that makes a mockery of any supposed profession of concern the administration has ever expressed for me as a Jewish person on campus.

President Trump is banning students majoring in degrees that don’t make enough money from taking out college loans. Degrees for social work, art, religious studies, teaching aides, and music will be hit the hardest. trib.al/aaAEu6v

20/ But here is what actually works: knowing it exists. Once you understand that the content in your feed was selected for your specific fears and pressure points, it starts to lose its grip. Not all of it. But enough. Awareness is the first real defense any of us have.

15/ Neurotargeting does not care about your SAT score or your degree. It cares that your kid has asthma, that your car payment is late, that your mom just entered hospice care. It finds the crack in your armor and pours content through it, every single day, until you break.

Students in Florida deserve to read books and learn things. Teachers deserve to be able to teach. This is censorship, intimidation, and it is being achieved through a suffocating level of surveillance. We will vote these Republicans out and reinvest in our education system.

If understand the rules correctly, a trigger warning preceding a reading about sexual assault is unacceptable coddling and anti-free-speech, but also if a reading causes an adult student “mild discomfort” that’s a firing offense.

A college professors is fired for teaching an Ottessa Moshfegh story that causes "mild discomfort" for one student. Implication is that DeSantis government was involved in the firing. www.nytimes.com/2026/07/29/u...

I can't stress enough what a crisis this is. Trump's own intelligence agencies concluded that Iran attacked Minnesota's critical infrastructure and Trump is saying that it's Minnesota's own fault and denying it was Iran. The federal government won't defend blue states in a literal war.

Investigators cautioned that the assessment was preliminary. There were no indications that any water supply had been rendered unsafe to drink.

Every journalist on the Reflecting Pool story knows damn well that Trump’s “vandalism” claim is complete bullshit. The way they mindlessly amplify what they know is a lie is a perfect example of how normalizing Trump misinforms readers. This is a huge journalistic failure and history will be unkind.

Actual journalists would write “Trump tries to avoid blame for Reflecting Pool fiasco, blaming imaginary ‘vandals’; Law enforcement obliges him by arresting tourists.” www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

El Sayed: "When it comes to trans rights, this is the right to get the health care that you need...It’s the right not to be discriminated against by your government because of who you are. Because what tends to happen is they come for theirs, then they come for yours"

The idea that we can assent to the taking away of anybody’s rights, and think that somehow the government won’t come for all of our rights, is itself the problem. And, look, I don’t need people to understand how they use their rights. I just need people to agree that the government shouldn’t be able to take any of our rights. I put my face on the ground thirty-four times a day, David. Most people don’t understand why I do it. I don’t need them to understand. I just want to have the right to do it. And when people decide that they want to take away my right to do that, I’ve got a problem. Now, I hope that everybody’s going to show up and say, No, no, no. You can’t stop that person or that community from reflecting and praying as they choose. Similarly, when it comes to trans rights, this is the right to get the health care that you need. That’s really what it comes down to. It’s the right to be who you are. It’s the right not to be discriminated against by your government because of who you are. Because what tends to happen is they come for theirs, then they come for yours, then they come for theirs. And at some point you live in a society where rights are negotiable, and that is not the America I was born in. It’s not the America I know and love. It’s not the America I’m going to allow somebody like Donald Trump to give us.

Every human soul has been through some kind of pain, or grief. And so we can recognize it in each other. When we do, in general, we don't first ask "which party do you belong to?". We simply offer an ear, a shoulder, support. It's what MAKES us human. Don't let yourself be stripped of compassion!
