Crop yields down, our countryside scorched and over 2800 people are dead due to this summer's heatwaves. Meanwhile fossil fuel giants are raking in record profits. We must end this rampant profiteering, and cut fossil fuels from our energy mix as soon as possible.

I stopped buying DVDs ca 2005 having only collected ~20. I hated how expensive they were & illegally copied loads until downloads took over. 21 years later, I was given a £400 Sony player for free and can buy 5 DVDs for £1 at my local charity shop. My revenge, cold as it may be, is finally complete.

Look: stories are everything. EVERYTHING. They are the cognitive framework of our personal reality AND societal reality. We need to tell ourselves, and each other, different stories if we want to change the world. Left vs Right is a story that doesn’t serve us well. Its time to let that one go.

Stop the Microsoft AI megasite in Leeds!

Microsoft wants to build three huge AI data centres at Skelton Grange. It would drain the River Aire and become the city's biggest carbon emitter. We can still stop it - add your name to the petition.

Hard to think of a more deeply damaging start to Burnham’s premiership than giving green light to new oil & gas in N. Sea, if true. It won’t lower bills or lead to greater energy security but will drive an even hotter planet. What a terrible signal to give to rest of the world #ClimateVandalism

Having watched David Beckham get that red card live on TV in 1998 along with all of the other awful conduct by the Argentinian players (not to mention the officials) during the game, I will be very happy to see England come away victorious today. I’m also a British citizen, so there’s that.

Do you prefer it when artists release lots of tracks individually and often or albums a lot less often?

By-the-Bywater is among my absolute favourite podcasts and this latest episode on rereading Tolkien is particularly special as I finally sent in some thoughts (I had too many). Jared’s doodles are fabulous too of course.

Episode 88 is live! This time around we talked about not simply reading #Tolkien but rereading him -- something all of us, not to mention many of his readers, have done many times over the years. Art by @vandroidhelsing.bsky.social as always, drawn from his entries from his own reread this year.
