Norway lost 77 people, mostly young, to one man in 2011 Their answer - more openness, more democracy, more trust My homeland's answer - a livestream firing squad High trust nations grieve and rebuild Low trust nations put on a show We lost our way long before DJT It breaks my heart

I can not fucking believe my homeland is going to execute someone by firing squad and live stream it Make every school age child watch it in school, show it live on every large public screen Force all of us to stare into its face and see it clearly and decide if we are ok with it It’s terrifying

Haven’t been at the track since March, forgot how enjoyable 4x6min @ z4/z5 & easy miles Did not do a lot of speed and threshold work most of last season as I was having difficulty with all the extra vert Looking forward this year to both The next season is going to be awesome 🤩 #running #runsky

The lads in my trail running what’s app group are full of the humor lately “How to avoid turning into a trail runner” www.facebook.com/share/v/1PU5... “It’s too late for us” #running #runsky

Was determined I was going to run every single downhill in the EcoTrail 80k - no matter what This is in last 8 miles #suffering #running #runsky

Race photos for EcoTrail came in Captured a lovely moment between me and the “running widow” at the finish She did these “surprise stops” where she just showed up at random places along the course just her - cheering me and every other passing runner on #love #running #runsky

In airport listening to Eddie Vedder, legs still aching and still buzzing from my last race Have a week of meetings, round tables, dinners with executives Used to dream of this as a young engineer, now as a greybeard I hate it Rather spend the week with my family open.spotify.com/track/0fzCtV...

EcoTrail 80k yesterday Second time running After training for Swiss Alps, I thought this would be easy Forgot how brutal this race is Most punishing downhills of any race I have run, can barely walk and gonna lose a couple toe nails Amazing day, will return and won’t forget #running #runsky

Congrats @matt-amato.bsky.social on your Bryce Canyon 100miler finish! What a result! Well done!! #running #runsky

Trick question What angle and approach do do take to clean PA glue overflow from a joint on brittle Accoya to prevent splits Asking for a friend 🤣

Just a random post about grandparents Grandpa taught my carpentry, grandma bought me my first computer Spent 3 summers from age 9-12 with them They put me in computer camp, and I found my people, but also rode horseback into the mountains around Arizona with my grandad They shaped my life

Another weekend in the workshop Have a calm before the storm so working on my tools I have some amazing planes from my great grandfather passed down through the family Stanley planes from pre-1910, used daily not museum pieces Cleaned up blocks and ordered proper modern blades

How does so much knowledge fit into one persons brain An amazing video on strength training for runners. This is such a contested space - there is just so….much…bullshit Steve is just the GOAT and lays out the basics substack.com/@stevemagnes... #runsky #running

Had 5x5 VO2 hills scheduled while in Paris Instead of letting it go did the session after a 10k with colleagues As a hilly trail runner had to hold 6:30/mi - 4:00/km on the flat to hit VO2 Not since Jan run that pace Ankle sore took couple days Good SWAP pods keeping spirit up #running #runsky

Katie Taylor: 83,000 at Croke Park A generation of Irish girls who got to see women headlining stadiums I get why they picked Pili for the farewell, but she deserved a real dance partner one last time She spent her whole career proving girls don't need easy Wish the farewell had trusted that

This appeared in my workshop today If I have done one thing right it’s give my daughters my snarky silly sense of humor

Nothing like a good fuck up to make you pay attention Cutting the last bay window and was in lala land and cut the bloody mullions (the middle vertical pieces that separate the window panes) a couple mm too narrow So now have to glue and clamp a bloody slip of wood to each and let dry 🙈

Had a wild corporate event in Paris The most fun people you will ever meet Corporate running clubs are usually people more interested in the chat then the run Not here - fast pace 10k and 40 up for it Many ultra runners in the mix The stoplights and group pics saved me #running #runsky

🎵 Ooops I did it again 🎵 Registration opened on the 1st and I hesitated for about 5mins and then just pushed the button. So yea signed up for the 100mile race this time Some lads from Ireland I met at the 100k this year are also signed up Sure why not, “fail up” as they say 🤣 #running #runsky

Next bay window frame set cut and ready for glue up. Will get middle frame clamped then off for a nice run so it can dry and set and then finish remainder

In the workshop all weekend as usual. Finally done with the monster windows and now building “normal sized”. We have 3 bay windows on the kitchen and this is the center of the first one. Dry fit test before glue as it’s finicky with an exact 15deg angle for each window off the side.

Genuinely saddened by the loss of the great woman. She was a beautiful human who helped everyone around her. The world could use more like her. RIP Dolly

While this is called Shoeholics Anonymous, it should be called GAS anonymous. It speaks to the cursed gear acquisition syndrom that too many runners focus on. Finding the right shoe matters, but there...

Now I know the course, my fitness, and my weakness I think I’m going for it - signing up for the full 100mile race I guess we’ll see on Sept 1st #running #runsky

A bit of a chest cold left over from Swiss Alps, but expect to be back at it tomorrow Have to gear up for the next race at end of Sept the Ecotrail 80k Ran this last year, its much more runnable than last race, only has 9-10k vert Will be aiming at 10hr Buzzin! #running #runsky

So what would an aspiring ultra runner be without a Substack? 🤣 Had a lot to say about my DNF at Swiss Alps - too much for Bluesky Don’t expect @theshastaone.bsky.social quality writing, but it’s from the heart open.substack.com/pub/foolishr... #running #runsky
