I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Professor at University at Buffalo!
To kickoff my fall hiking season and celebrate my HUGE September 1 career milestone, Joel Versypt and I spent the afternoon at Letchworth State Park for hike 2 of #WNYHikingChallenge. We did the Autism Nature Trail and portions of the Gorge Trail.
Shout-out to Ariel, Kailei, Angeli & Eduardo for TAing our lab's session of the UB ChemE Camp. They helped HS students with designing an optimal treatment plan using our custom MATLAB pharmaceutical dosing app & w drawing PFDs for Oreo manufacturing. Our materials: sites.google.com/site/ashleef...
I was 1 of 2 scheduled speakers in the last contributed talk session at #SMB2025 & the other didn't show. I'm thankful for the 7 engaged audience members consisting of 3 strangers & 4 friends & for see you later hugs I got today. I love the math bio research community that spans the globe.
John Metzcar & I hosted a minisymposium on Systems Approaches to Cancer Biology at the Society for Mathematical Biology Annual Meeting #SMB2025. 2025.smb.org/ONCO/MS-ONCO... Speakers: me, Aaron Meyer, Erzsébet Ravasz Regan, & Stacey Finley
We got a door sign for my lab! I never remembered to ask until a staff member recently asked for updates from all the faculty. My hallway has all new lab signs from all the faculty who've joined in the last 6 years. My lab 404 will no longer get "404 not found" messages.
Happy to be working on this dream team project led by Viviana Monje in her NSF RIEF grant on teaching threshold concepts in statistics to ChE using computational notebooks. Matilde Sanchez-Pena and I are co-PIs on the team. Jinhui Li CBE PhD student created the poster & the notebook (QR code).
Throwback to 16.5 years ago at my first Thunder basketball team in the Ford Center during their first season. Oklahoma has loved and supported this team from the beginning. Not just OKC, but the entire state. Awesome for them to win it all at home! #ThunderUp
NBA finals game 7 team spirit in the ChE Division at ASEE!
My MIRA renewal is officially on the SUNY RF social media celebration list. My first grant to be celebrated as "large grant award" in 4.5 years at UB.
Hike 1 of #WNYHikingChallenge at Little Rock City with UB SEAS colleagues before we start the Faculty Launch Mentoring Program writing retreat in Ellicottville.
We celebrate each new MS or PhD grad by taking a pic with all of those who have graduated and left my lab before them. Congratulations Dr. Kru and Tanben, MS. #ubclassof2025
CBE graduates who had UG research experiences in my lab. Congrats JP, Sarita, and Yaman! #ubclassof2025
My paper with Duncan Mullins on the open source educational materials for Applied Numerical Computing is now published by the Journal of Open Source Education: jose.theoj.org/papers/10.21... Repository: github.com/ashleefv/App... Thanks to NSF and CACHE for funding.

I will teach Honors Board Games in the fall as a 1 credit class for 1st engineers! I will serve as a UB Honors Faculty Fellow. They want faculty to share passions & connect into the UB community. It's perfect to connect my love for gaming, source of community & strategic skill development.
Notice of Award Day!!!!! Our competitive renewal of the NIH R35 MIRA from NIGMS is officially awarded! We are INCREDIBLY thankful for the next five years of support for our project titled: "Quantitative Systems Biomedicine and Pharmacology for Multiscale Tissue Damage".
I have been promoted to the rank of full professor effective 9-1-25 I am thankful for all the members & alumni of my lab, collaborators, funding, mentors, colleagues, friends, family, & Joel. My career is not a solo effort, and I love the team science, service, & education I get to contribute to.
I am thankful to live so close to Niagara Falls! We enjoyed exploring the winter wonderland.

We are your next #GRC Physical Science of Cancer Conference Vice Chairs for the 2027 meeting! I'm excited to get to serve this fantastic scientific community with Stephanie Fraley. @fraleylab.bsky.social
Excited to introduce the HUB and our free inaugural Annual Meeting! Attending this meeting offers an opportunity for $100k pilot grants for faculty! The new innovative program is also great for students and post docs. Register TODAY by clicking the link below: forms.gle/fdviGSeY1epo...
First conference selfie with the one and only Heiko Enderling! We first met at the Gordon Research Conference on Physical Science of Cancer two years ago. It's nice to reunite at the same meeting and represent the cancer math bio research community.
A great seminar visit to WVU Chemical and Biomedical Engineering was enabled by Joel Versypt driving me 5 hr each way. We split up the return trip with a night in PA. He explored campus while I met with faculty and students in this vibrant dept. Thanks to Yuhe Tian for hosting my visit.
Had a nice visit to Vanderbilt Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering for a seminar. Thanks to Marjan Rafat for hosting me!
I am so proud of the team that Shayn Peirce-Cottler and I co-led focused on agent-based modeling of lung fibrosis and interventions. Eirini Kilikian, Claudia De Sousa Miranda Pérez, and Narshini Gunputh learned a lot and accomplished so much this week at #ICERM
