My brain's got many subconscious processes working on stuff all the time. Most of the time when I've solved a difficult problem it happens in the background and appears to my conscious self as if it came out of nowhere. Not really that different to have a bunch processes doing this in silicon.
Its funny to me to assert that you need to know every detail about what your code does at every level, given that the computer does several billion things I only have a fuzzy understanding of every single second.
Found out claude was just generating a bitmap font to add labels to rendered astro sim video and I was very impressed but had to politely ask it to please just use a font rasterizing library, thats insane lol.
Actually please just don't be incredibly rude to people you don't know at all with 0 provocation. Just apply the bare minimum respect for people you *might* disagree with that civilized existence requires.

Increasingly find myself in a situation where claude is busy doing something I only have a fuzzy understanding of and I just go do the dishes or something.
This was fine when it was just cpu usage (real time threads get sufficient priority) but today it is ram usage and now my pc just freezes for several seconds every once and a while.

Opus 5 appears to have added the word "hoist" to the claudism pantheon.
Very easy to accidentally create things with Opus 5 because it will take off and build anything you even hint at potentially wanting. I can foresee a future where you wake up in the morning and review all the projects you built in your sleep as part of an automated dream to website pipeline.
Ive learned a bit about black hole accretion disks now and my recommendation is that you should stay away from black hole accretion disks if possible.
Claude is on a real "measuring rather than guessing" kick (happens sometimes when the context fills up with him being wrong about hypothesis), I don't have the heart to tell it that Its only moving the guessing to "how to measure".
In the short term it looks like they're going to make llm's so hard to talk to that companies will have to hire interpreters to wrangle them anyway.
Bluesky video upload is really unkind to high resolution simulation uploads, might have to put up a bunch on youtube or vimeo or something.
Here's my current best attempt, a white dwarf becoming an accretion disk. Many artistic liberties are taken on the rendering, in reality the whole thing would be opaque due to electron scattering and shining primarily in x-ray part of the spectrum.
em@foremphasis.bsky.social · 5d agoOk so "star gets shredded by a close flyby with a black hole" sounds like an awesome visual sim but it turns out black holes are really small and space is really big so its actually hard to frame this in a way that looks like anything other than a dot becoming a slightly longer dot.
