Data centers don’t belong in the watershed of the world’s most significant wetland restoration effort without a close look at risks to our water, land and air. Today we urged local leaders to protect the Everglades watershed. They listened. No Airports. No Rock Mines. No Prisons. No Data Centers.

Two more Florida panther deaths bring the 2026 total to 14. Both were young females likely hit by vehicles in Collier and Hendry counties. Panthers need every acre. That’s why we fight for accountability at “Alligator Alcatraz,” built on panther habitat in Big Cypress. #floridapanther #everglades
The parking lot at "Alligator Alcatraz" has not always been there. Google Earth imagery shows the land south of the runway undeveloped through February 2024. The lot first appears in December 2025, after the state hastily built the facility without any environmental review. #BackToBigCypress
The “Alligator Alcatraz” signs are down. The 1,200-space parking lot in the heart of the Everglades is not. Here’s what remains. https://www.everglades.org/1200-parking-spaces-in-the-heart-of-the-everglades/

The signs have come down, but the harm remains. Inside the fenceline at “Alligator Alcatraz” we found 20+ acres of new blacktop, pooling water, invasive plants and rebar jutting from the ground. Our case is advancing in federal court. We won’t rest until justice is served for the Everglades.

Another panther death brings the 2026 total to 12. A 6-year-old male was killed by a vehicle strike on SR 29 in Collier County on Sept. 29. "Alligator Alcatraz" is gone, but the site is still prime panther habitat. Every acre matters. #floridapanther #everglades #florida #alligatoralcatraz

‘Crown Jewel’ of Everglades Restoration Is Too Small, Report Says - Inside Climate News
A sprawling reservoir at the heart of the $27 billion effort to restore Florida’s Everglades is unprecedented in size, but a new report suggests much more reservoir space is needed.

🚨 Two bombshells just dropped about "Alligator Alcatraz." A federal audit found major health & safety failures at the camp. A state report confirms it drained Florida's emergency fund to $6.4M — with a $1.5B deficit ahead. Our lawsuit forced this into the open 👇 https://ow.ly/Atly50ZOP5e

Two new reports confirm it: "Alligator Alcatraz" was a fiasco. A federal watchdog found the camp failed health and safety standards, including 18-sq-ft cages. Florida drained its emergency fund to $6.4M, with $187M going to Alcatraz contractors. Follow us. #AlligatorAlcatraz #FriendsOfTheEverglades
By the way, it's their home too. Alligators dig "gator holes" that hold freshwater through the dry season, a lifeline for other wildlife. When they thrive, it's a sign the ecosystem is healthy, but toxic algae threatens that water. Sign: https://www.everglades.org/rescue/
No egrets here. 🪽 The Great Egret, a large Everglades wading bird, hunts fish with lightning-fast strikes.
A 240-square-mile toxic algae bloom is covering Lake Okeechobee, per NOAA data. It threatens Florida's coasts, wildlife and public health, from skin irritation to neurodegenerative disease. We know the fix: buy the land south of Lake O for water storage. Sign: https://www.everglades.org/rescue/
