I heard it said recently that software engineers are history’s first illiterate professional class. That’s overstated, but I think it’s directionally true enough to explain a LOT about the current state of the industry…and the world.
“Only the good die young” is obviously untrue - cf the entire Wikipedia page of “Juvenile Serial Killers.” What people mean by that saying is something more akin to “only the good die too soon.”
Advance reader copies of PARADOX INC are here! They’re so beautiful!! @penguinrandomhouse.bsky.social
here's to the crazy ones. the misfits. the rebels.
My preschooler tells me that the driver in The Wheels on the Bus song now says “I love you” instead of “Move on back”, and while I suppose there’s a chance the old driver was a racist, the new one seems to be just begging for a restraining order.
“the AI models are currently the worst they will ever be” (2026) Compare this claim to: “Netflix is currently the worst it will ever be” (2014) It is absolutely not a guarantee that currently subsidized services will continually get better relative to you, the end user
I'm being told that the city motto of Vancouver is not "Vancouver is for Louvers" ... missed opportunity imo
"Funny and distressingly realistic...propelled by awesome characters and inventive twists” — Andy Weir Silicon Valley invents the time machine in my upcoming book PARADOX INC, now available for preorder everywhere! Here's a look inside from @people.com: people.com/paradox-inc-...

not sure about all this lab leak discourse, personally I think the evidence is pretty clear that the Claude Code source escaped from a wet market
Dreamed last night that I was at a tech conference called LEFTOVERS. -all the talks were repeats from other events -the swag bags were assembled from other swag bags -the food was … you get the idea In the dream it seemed kind of awesome
I’ve noticed you can tell how far back someone’s programming experience goes based on whether they pronounce “Replit” as 2 syllables or 3.
A physical book … published by NPR … about collecting CDs. The past (1999) truly is a foreign country
Contrary to prevailing wisdom, there has never been a better time to share your own writing, in longform, on the internet.
why is everybody saying that conservatives don't read theyre literally called MAGA-zines
Interesting point raised by a smart friend today: Traditional DevRel/tech community building are over, because AI kills loyalty to platforms / frameworks / etc. Not just because it lowers switching costs ... but because it destroys the self-identification people used to feel with their tools.
New cool kid Silicon Valley-ism I just heard is “what’s his spike?” As in: “what’s his outlier trait/the thing he’s best at?” Any idea where this comes from?
enterprises can remain irrational longer than AI developer productivity companies can remain solvent
Here’s what I’ve learned after 3 kids: - babies are pets, it’s like taking care of a hamster - 2 year olds and above are people, you just talk to them - 1 year olds are fast freaky little aliens with no reasoning and no sense of self-preservation, good luck.
SINNERS is a smart, stylish movie that people actually saw, enjoyed, and talked about. The Oscars should always be recognizing movies like this. They’re actually rarer than you think.
16 oscar nods for sinners. The anti “woke” tantrum is gonna be off the charts
Need a plausible theory for how Minneapolis became the main character of the 2020s
A child of mine, historically a selective eater, just downed his first-ever cheeseburger. After each bite he said “This is the best thing I’ve ever tasted.” As soon as it was gone he groaned “I never want one of those again.” yep, that’s the cheeseburger experience. Welcome to America, kid.
Finally saw an ‘Avatar’ in the theater, in 3D, and like … I get it now.
TIL that Christopher Nolan is red-green colorblind, and suddenly so many things make sense.
