I saw the trailer for "Wicker" and I am pretty sure basket weaving teachers are about to experience a boom in their economy.

My annual wish on this memorable day, that all racists may come to know the taste of their own teeth.
Quote of the Day. The original 🇫🇷 in slide two. The image is a detail from "On the Promenade" (before 1924) by Ignaz Marcel Gaugengigl. Brooklyn Museum. (This post is tongue-in-cheek, so members of The Earnest International Order of Virtue Signallers can stroll on by.)
I got the covid vaccine in January 2021, as soon as it became available, as directed by Dr Fauci. Fast forward to 2026, and every time I go outside it sounds like everyone around me is speaking French. Mille mercis, Dr Fauci! Maintenant il me faut utiliser le subjonctif! Putain!
One of the gems of the Madame de Sévigné show at Musée Carnavalet is this late 17th century hand screen (non-folding ancestor of the folding fan), painted with a scene showing the garden at the Château de Marly struck by a gust of wind. Skirts fly up, of course (in the best Benny Hill fashion)...
Tidied the library, which doubles as the guest room, because grown children of a beloved friend from university are coming to stay. Fills me with unmixed joy. Except the part where my university friends suddenly have grown children. Surely not possible when I am barely out of university myself.
Narrow Paris sidewalk. Lady bends down to look in shop window. Mother and toddler pass. Toddler is clutching wet lollipop. Lollipop brushes lady's long hair. It sticks. Startled lady stands up. Hair carries off lollipop. Lady screams. Toddler screams. Mother screams. Brief pause, I keep walking.
A moment from our final ball of the season, caught in slow motion.

My favorite part of the World Cup was the entire world loudly booing Assclown McGee. I grudgingly admit that in that moment, football united the people of all nations.
We celebrated the bicentenary of Empress Eugénie with a ball in the Salle Wagram. A group of Americans had come over for a week of lessons, and it was a joy to meet them (and sometimes translate for them). Had I not made videos and photos, I would swear it was all a dream.

The floral repeat of the needlepoint chair seat has achieved full width. This feels like a milestone, so I would like to share it with all of you. I am saving the background (a bright yellow) for dessert. The excellent canvas is from Maison Sajou and the embroidery wool is from DMC .

"I could not be more delighted," said Mr Boxe. "I knew she was the ideal choice of portraitist." "Magnificent," said Mr Foxe. "See how she's caught the rakish gleam in my eye. And yours, my dear, yours is the absolute speaking likeness."

Yesterday was the last of the seasonal balls at Hôtel de la Marine with 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘁 𝗱𝗲 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝘀. I put out my accessories and suddenly had the urge to shout "I'm late! I'm late!"

I've done afternoon talks on niche knitting topics for small fiber guilds in out-of-the-way places that drew larger crowds than Trump's carnival. And nobody jiggled their bits in front of the kiddies, either.
It bothers me to what I admit is an irrational degree that I have to crack open a new ball to finish binding off the back panel of the baby jacket, which otherwise fit perfectly into one ball. (There have been a lot of questions about this stitch pattern, so I'm making a video.)

Yes, making this *was* the best possible use of my time while waiting for my morning toast, thank you for asking.
The Pont Neuf, the oldest bridge in Paris, has been temporarily transformed by Parisian artist JR into a mysterious, mind-bending cave. In our 13th "Walk with Me," we follow my favorite route along the Seine, ending with the caverns over the river. patreon.com/franklinhabit
Big love to my friends on Juneteenth ❤️. You've always had my back, I've got yours.
That thing when you're out for a walk and crossing the Rue de Rivoli and suddenly you hear sirens and six cop cars go screeching by in the direction of the Louvre and you think aw jeez not AGAIN.
A wild surprise. I knew Knit Stars was in Vichy to film my friend Alice Hammer for the new season. With busy schedules I doubted we'd meet. Then Shelley followed the sound of music--and ended up spotting me in a Quadrille Français being danced by *hundreds* of couples--and she filmed it. 🤯🥰
C'est parti à Vichy. Day One of the Napoléon III weekend was the début for my Second Empire (1860s) day ensemble. The coat was tailor-made. I made the rest (except the hat, which is vintage, and the gloves). I danced in it, strolled in it, bought old books in it. I can't really ask for more.
