Can't root for either team in a Carolina-Colorado Stanley Cup Final, or Vegas for that matter, so I hope the hockey gods give me Montreal, Buffalo, or Anaheim. Worst comes to worst, I'll put on Panthers' playoff games from the past three seasons instead.

NCAR’s Vin Lally (1922-2005, under the balloon) was a pioneer in the field of atmospheric measurements, and a generous mentor to me when I was a green NOAA lad learning about dropwindsondes. Few were more important to my career development than Vin. Thank you, Vin, and thank you NCAR.

These people are nuts. NCAR developed the GPS dropsonde, which revolutionized the understanding of TC structure, improved forecasts, and validated remote sensing platforms, as documented in over 400 peer-reviewed publications in the last 25 years. And that’s just one of NCAR’s countless advances.
