The discourse about Beyonce and Kendrick’s performances has taught me one thing. There are people, on both sides, who are uncomfortable when Black Americans identity as AMERICANS. I think you should unpack that.

Black Americans have a reputation as a “homeless” people and we are not. This country has been our home for centuries and we have created its culture (the parts you like anyway). A country’s people are not its government, we understand that for everyone else but us.

Work on your relationship to convenience (speaking to myself as well). It’s nice but it is far from the most important thing. It may take an extra 4 days or cost $5 more. That’s worth it. Plan and prepare for it.

For me, while WE know it disproportionately affects them, we know the connotation and messaging around it was about US. Announcing your departure from DEI is about messaging regarding US. It will be used to actively discriminate against US.

Boycotting stores becomes a lot easier when you pair it with a focus on reducing your overall consumption, which is a good idea anyway
I hate the language being used regarding undocumented immigrants. “They pick our food and clean our homes”…They’re human beings and reducing them to their SEVERELY UNDERPAID labor implies that that’s the only reason they should be here.

IMO the calm I feel right now is all an ancestral gift. Our people have been through worse here and have left us their lessons and their strength. I think “today” also being MLK day is a sign/reminder of that. Received and I’m thankful.
Maybe TT is actually different maybe it’s not, either way don’t give in to outrage. You can’t get played if you know the play. We know they’re going to censor and manipulate. Get creative, be adaptable, and be smart. It’s still a tool just be more discerning.
