opinions, alas, my own

I have just discovered that Cosmo Jarvis was meant to be in The Odyssey but due to scheduling conflicts his role went to Logan Marshall-Green, showing the lengths Christopher Nolan will go to tell Tom Hardy he misses him

The Odyssey is very good but I do find it funny how many episodes are basically Odysseus and crew turning up on an island and immediately going "run away" in the tone of Monty Python and the Holy Grail

The most devastating line about Starmer was the one about driving the DLR, and it is the one that will last because it is a. memorable and b. had the grain of truth. No doubt Burnham will have his own faults but hard to see the DLR line sticking to him.

Perhaps what annoys people most about Gary Stephenson is that even on the left it seems impossible now to get anyone to pay attention to you without the hook that you, a young person, made a lot of money very quickly and have some secrets to share

Thing is, we have a perfectly good example of how to reduce inequality through taxes, it is called "Sweden" and it involves putting up income taxes on everyone to eye-watering levels, and the fact that no one wants to bite the bullet and just do that tells you how serious the left actually is

The bit that really gets me is Farage saying that it is good when politicians make money. You're meant to say that about, I dunno, having run a moderately successful IT firm or something, not just being given 5 million quid.

Alas the proposed alternatives to patriotism given by leftists is usually either "I would simply rally the people on an issue-to-issue basis" or "I would simply create a new mass identity acceptable to me, a quite depressed person online" and surprisingly neither of these seem to gain much traction

Almost none of the ”we need to reclaim patriotism” people ever explain ~why~ we should do so. They begin with the assumption that patriotism is a good thing. What if it’s not?

My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions and loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. He/him.

At least Starmer's failure has given the civil service an excellent recruiting slogan. "Do you want to make a difference to the world but don't like appearing in the public eye? Then don't try to be PM. Maybe try becoming a perm sec or something"

Controversial take: if there is another world war, it should NOT be titled World War Three. Linking WWI to WWII works because they have such great continuities, adding an unrelated third war to the trilogy would be confusing and even misleading.
