Just back from the “Otto Tank moraine”, where Jens Esmark and Niels Otto Tank in 1823 observed a newly formed moraine and managed to put the pieces of their groundbreaking Ice Age hypothesis together.
New paper out in QSR 👉 www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti... We establish Younger Dryas and Tapes sea level transgressions of 5-9 and ~10 m, respectively, in southern Norway. The YD sea level transgression and highstand reflect the glacial readvance and subsequent stillstand during the Stadial.

Just back from another coring campaign - retrieving sediment cores from basins close to ancient archeological sites, e.g. for pollen analyses. Spring is fast approaching in the lowland, but winter is still very much present around lake Røssvatnet at 65,5 degrees north. I like my job.
Out coring for past sea level and GLOFs! We found this unit of graded gravel and sand with erosive boundaries, between a lacustrine gyttja (top) and a silty suspension sediment (bottom) 🤤 No idea what it is, yet ... Down = down core.
Veiki moraines (ice-walled lake plains) in an ~12 ka old ice-marginal zone in Finnmark, Norway. Quite similar to the "circular ablation features" posted earlier - if everything but the circular Veiki moraines is removed.
We also have these features termed "cirular ablation moraines" (till) that is found on top of (old/ancient?) blockfields. Does anyone know of similar features elsewhere?
Preparing a new mapping area and had to share some beautiful LiDAR, as one should. Fluvial and marine processes at play during land emergence, some deflation and a sprinkle of wind-blown sand 🤩

Just visited these sawtooth moraines in Bødalen 😍 The moraines were deposited by Bødalsbreen, an outlet glacier from the Jostedalsbreen ice cap, during the Little Ice Age. Beautiful day!
Still surfing Svalbard! A colleague just pointed out these to me. The moraines probably formed because of varying glacier thermal regime, but still can't wrap my head properly around how exactly they formed 🤯

Checked out these strange-looking "eskers" (west of the scale bar) a few weeks back. Was expecting sorted sediments with bedding, but found diamicton in all cases. Any ideas what they could be? We've got a few crevasse-related candidates.

Out mapping and had to check out this crag-and-tail feature. Underwhelming 20x20 m-large crag, but cool to visit. The flute is just shy of 1 km long and less than 5 m high and 35 m wide. So quite fast-flowing ice, right?
