I really loved Intermezzo, by Sally Rooney. It was traditional and new all at once, with lots to teach us!

My eighth collection, Dopamine and the Devil (Coffeetown Press 2025) now available! I'm a schizophrenia survivor and a songwriter too! Some of my songs can be found on SoundCloud.
Thanks so much to @rodmannix.bsky.social for the repost...and now I shall repost as well! Hope you like these poems...embarrassingly personal as ever!
Hey everybody! The poems I mentioned are up. Thanks so much to @seriouslitmag.bsky.social!!!
The food in St Louis? They make a hell of a pizza down in Lemay. My buddy Byron took me to Monte Bello. It was grand!
I'm with Horace: never a day without a line. You've got to stay diligent, even as the world is upside down! #poetry
Isn't it lovely to have so many artist friends? This one's by Paul Lodes. Painters and poets have a lot in common...
Had to say goodbye to my sister's dear cat, River. We loved her so much! She was quite spectacular...
A poem from when I was eighteen! From my debut collection, The Dogtown Poet (Ginninderra Press). Not even sure if it's available anymore... #poetry #mentalhealth
I've always liked the Romantic notion of the universe flowing through your head and language coming out. A critic says that's just a lie the poet tells themself. Maybe we'll never really know! #poetrylife
Well darn! After I returned to do a workshop they actually gave me the key to the hospital which once confined me. Hey, a Cinderella story I do believe!
So glad! A hip new journal called Serious Lit will be publishing 12 of my poems in august. That doesn't happen every day! #poetry #mentalhealth
Hey! Would you like a signed copy of my new book? DM me and we'll work it out. It's a real crowd pleaser!
Oh, we might be destitute and poor but at least we have the world of poetry! #poetry
I've been having fun reading poetry and philosophy at 5am every morning at Starbucks with my friends. And I can't say enough nice things about the baristas. It's a very good life!
And soon I shall delve into the famous book about mixing Apollo and Dionysus. Oh, what I will learn! Maybe it'll inspire some good poetry...#poetry
Maybe the poetic soul is that unwavering part of your constantly changing self. Maybe it pushes language through the filter of your brain. #poetry
Well, I'm fifty-two now and have been writing poems since I was a teenager. And I'm finally getting a little closer to figuring out what my own Poetics is. When I get there I'll let you know! #poetry
Oh darn! This little beauty is still out there. Will have to start putting together the next one soon!
Happy to say I've got a new poem up with Anacapa Review! anacapareview.com/matthew-free...

I've learned to embrace my precursor and have fun with the dialogue I'm creating. AND I'm having fun with my own type of awareness. What a journey it's been! I remember being a teenager and honestly just playing with words, having no real idea of what I was doing. So glad to be here! #poetry
I think it's weird and interesting how you can experience all that complicated philosophy and theory stuff while on a simple walk to the grocery store. And then come home and write all about it! #poetry
Mental health issues. Academia. Weird interpretations. This one has it all!
My submission process is simple, and maybe a bit irrational. First, I look for journals with cool names. And then I look for ones that don't require too much effort, like pagination or your name on every page (which I don't really know how to do). It's easy! And then I send out the poems...#poetry
