There's a new pill on the shelf! 👀 Three years have passed since the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Opill, the first over-the-counter (OTC) daily birth control pill, and generic versions are now allowed to be sold—we've already seen one at Walgreens and are excited for more to come!

People w/ disabilities belong in decisions that shape health care, education, workplaces, and community life—and their contributions benefit everyone. Whether they know it or not, many people use & rely on disability-led advocacy and design: voice dictation, closed captions, curb cuts, audiobooks, ♾️
We are so proud and honored to continue doing this work alongside our 275+ member coalition of reproductive justice advocates, researchers, health care providers, youth activists, and dedicated orgs + individuals who share a common vision for expanding bodily autonomy!
Happy 3-Year Approv-iversary, Opill! We're so glad to see you every time we walk through the family planning aisle, available to anyone and everyone—without ID, health insurance, or prescription—right off the shelf. 🙌
NCLR Legal Dir. Shannon Minter breaks down what SCOTUS did & what they didn't decide in yesterday's trans student athlete case. The main take away? Although this decision is disappointing, it is a setback, not the end of the road.
What the Supreme Court did not decide in the trans sports case
The ruling in West Virginia v. B.P.J. leaves open the door to inclusive policies, writes attorney Shannon Minter.

Juneteenth honors the legacy of resilience, strength, and the enduring fight for freedom. It uplifts ongoing social liberation movements, celebrates progress, and recognizes barriers maintained by those same systems of oppression. The right to bodily autonomy is essential to our collective freedom.
Every June, we celebrate the existence, resilience, and gorgeous diversity of queer + trans communities 🌈 Everyone deserves equitable access to care that respects their identity, honors their autonomy, affirms their dignity. The freedom to make decisions about our lives + bodies belongs to us all!
In 1965, the US Supreme Court decision in Griswold v. Connecticut established the basis for the right to privacy with respect to intimate practices, AND, along with rulings in other cases, views the right to privacy as "protected from governmental intrusion" ➡️ #GratefulForGriswold #FreeThePill

NHeLP and Free the Pill launched a new toolkit to help states expand insurance coverage of OTC contraception without prescription or cost-sharing barriers. Free the Pill https://healthlaw.org/resource/coverage-of-over-the-counter-contraception-model-legislation-and-toolkit/
Coverage of Over-the-Counter Contraception: Model Legislation and Toolkit
NHeLP and Free the Pill created this Toolkit to help state advocates secure coverage of over-the-counter contraceptives through legislation. As states confront provider and clinic shortages resulting from devastating OBBBA cuts, guaranteeing coverage of OTC contraceptives without a prescription and without cost-sharing provides a critical path to maintaining and expanding access to contraception. NHeLP is ready to stand with partners this session to advance this and other critical sexual and reproductive health protections.
