Qwen 3.6-27B was already a significant milestone for local LLMs (running outputs at 60 tok/s under 1200€ hardware cost, at ~150W). This new Qwen 3.8-27B available next week (?) might be a bigger deal than any Mythos for computer security, or any other computer task. I am very curious 👀

There was an interval in top conferences where the top-[x..y]% papers were randomly accepted. Now I feel like this zone is much larger; I find the reviewing job becoming increasingly more difficult, especially when the paper is not directly within my primary field.

We can already run powerful local LLMs on reasonable common hardware. qwen 3.6-35B on my computer completed in 8 minutes the project from my computer security class. Such a project should take students several days of work to acquire the fundamentals, which they don't do for most of them.
